Limerick Podcasts

Don’t you just love a good podcast? Whether its while relaxing at home, as background music while you work or a soundtrack to your run, there’s something nice about listening to someone talk. This week we’re going to look at some Limerick Podcasts (either featuring Limerick people or about Limerick) that are worth checking out.

Food for Thought

Blindboy Podcast

To begin with, we’ll start with the obvious one – the Blindboy Podcast. Since he first started recording his weekly podcast in October 2017, Blindboy has gained a cult following well beyond the Rubberbandits fanbase. His podcast is consistently one at the top of the most listened to podcasts in the word. Each Wednesday, Blindboy offers his unique perspective (and the occasional hot take) on a number of issues such as mental health, the environment and history. From time to time, he’ll upload an interview (recording in front of a live audience) with a people that might not normally get interviewed but always have a good story to tell.

Ann and Steve

Ann & Steve Talk Stuff is the first of two podcasts in this list to feature actor/musician Ann Blake. In this podcast, she teams up with Economist Stephen Kinsella and they talk about… stuff. With their differing perspectives, they discuss a wide range of topics such as politics, the economy, the arts and more. No matter what the topic, there’s always a good conversation to be had. https://www.limerickpost.ie/podcasts/talkstuff/

Conservations

Limerick Lady

Ann’s other podcasting project is The Limerick Lady which she co-hosts with Emma Langford. The Limerick Lady is a celebration of diversity and amazing women. Each episode delves into the issues affecting us all and, in particular, how they affect women. Recent topics have included under-representation in music and politics, homelessness, LGBTQ+ issues and diabetes. https://www.limerickpost.ie/podcasts/limericklady/

101 O’Connel Street is the venue for Sophie La Touche’s Fur Coat, No Nickers podcast. Each episode features Sophie having an honest chat with a different person with topics that are normally considered taboo. With conversations about kink and cooking, there’s no telling what each episode will be about. https://open.spotify.com/show/63XU9yYXlyuK2Suo4XiFxe

DIY IRL Podcast

DIY IRL With Anna’s Anchor follows Limerick musician Marty Ryan as he travels around the country interviewing people. Looking back

Generally, we try to avoid politics on this site but for our next two podcasts bending that rule slightly. We’re going to look at two Limerick Podcasts that delve into the history of Limerick.

Bottom Dog podcast

Cian Prendiville looks back at the Limerick Soviet of 1919 in The Bottom Dog. There are five episodes which go through the issues that lead to the soviet, how it happened and what impact it’s had on the city. http://limericksoviet.ie/

Together for Yurt

A more recent podcast, Together for Yurt, delves into Limerick campaign to repeal the 8th Amendment and the various people and organisations that made it happened. Each of the 10 episodes features different members of the campaign and their experiences. https://togetherforyurt.home.blog/episodes/

New pod on the block

A Pea In His Pod

Our final and most recent addition is A Pea In His Pod with Limerick’s favourite Roscommon man Vincent Gilloohy. We’re still not sure who thought giving Vinny a microphone was a good idea. For the most part, however, it has been proving interesting. Check it out on https://www.mixcloud.com/Vinnieg14/
