SOLD OUT KT Tunstall plays Dolans Warehouse at 8pm. KT Tunstall has always lived in pursuit of creative evolution. PIGTOWN PICK OF THE WEEK Wreckquiem, the much-anticipated new play from award-winning playwright, Mike Finn, is on in the Lime Tree Theatre at 8pm. Pat Shortt leads an all-star cast, directed by Andrew Flynn, alongside Patrick Ryan, Joan Sheehy, Mark O’Regan and Sade Malone. When a developer threatens a much-loved record store, a band of oddballs and misfits must save the day in this heart-warming comedy about hope, friendship and why it’s ok to own eight different versions of Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. As part of the Limerick Wild Geese Festival, a special mid-summer French Sparkling Wine Summer Party in the elegant surroundings of the No.1 Pery Square Hotel & Spa at 6pm, celebrating the Limerick Wild Geese Festival organised in partnership with the Limerick and Clare Wine Lovers Club. The Irish National Opera presents Music, Magic & Mischief: A guide to falling in love in opera in the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West at 8pm. Hear the stars of tomorrow perform some of the greatest scenes. We’ll be venturing to mystical lands with Mozart and Handel, mourning doomed romances with Massenet and celebrating good times with Strauss. This 60-minute performance is a whistlestop tour through the gamut of emotions opera has to offer, all set to spectacular music. Music, Magic & Mischief features members of the Irish National Opera Studio (the company’s artist development programme), this is a chance to see some of Ireland’s most promising operatic talents of the future explore some of the world’s greatest operas. The Treaty Whiskey Society will host a whiskey tasting celebrating the launch of the Locke Bar’s exclusive bottling created in collaboration with Two Stacks Irish Whiskey at 8pm. As part of the Limerick Wild Geese Festival, A Very Jacobite Evening in Limerick takes place at 5.30pm in the Limerick Protestant Young Men’s Association Hall, featuring the handover ceremony of a very rare illuminated manuscript roll by Limerick man and Jacobite James Terry (1660-1725). The precious manuscript was purchased in London by Irish company Heavey Technology to be put on permanent display at the Limerick Museum. The handover ceremony will be immediately followed by a public talk by Dr Harman Murtagh, who will present the fascinating fruits of his and his late father’s years of research on the Irish Jacobite armies during the Williamite War in Ireland, including the sieges of Limerick (1689-1691). This event is free, but pre-registration via Eventbrite is required due to the limited room capacity. More info here
Samson Films presents The Ghost of Richard Harris in the Belltable at 6pm, followed by a Q&A session with the producer David Collins, Jared Harris and Damian Harris. This one-night-only event includes an exclusive post-screening Q&A session featuring the documentary’s producer David Collins with Jared Harris and Damian Harris, sons of Richard Harris. As part of the Limerick Wild Geese Festival, the Living History Camp, an afternoon of animations including historical reenactments, takes place at the Hunt Museum Garden from 12pm. Includes historical reenactments from En Garde (the Society for Franco-Irish History), a dance performance by Scoil Uí Ruairc, a traditional stick fighting demo and singing by Brian Moloney and the Saint Mary’s Mens Shed, live music by the Saint Mary’s Prize Band, the Limerick School of Music and from traditional musicians (courtesy of Conradh na Gaeilge, Craobh Chathair Luimnigh and Fóras na Gaeilge). Monk Fest, a yearly Cursed Monk Records showcase in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital, kicks off in Pharmacia from 3pm. Followed by a night of crushingly heavy music by bands from the Cursed Monk roster, and a raffle with some excellent prizes, including art, merch and music gear. The Mooreabbey 10 Mile 2025 takes place at 10am. The experienced Mooreabbey Milers AC again host this ever-growing 10 mile road race in the picturesque village of Galbally. Come for the racing and enjoy stunning views of the Galty mountains. An event for runners, organised by runners. Generous cash prizes for the top three men and women plus category prizes. The Annual Wild Geese Festival Parade and Flag Raising Ceremony takes place at 2pm. Witness a joyful and colourful procession, led by Band 1 of the Defence Forces and departing from Arthur’s Quay park at 2pm sharp. The parade will march to Saint Mary’s Cathedral via the city centre and will conclude in front of the United Nations Peace Garden, with our annual flag raising ceremony starting at 2.30pm. The following organisations and community groups will take part in the parade: members of the 12th Infantry Battalion of the Defence Forces, O.N.E. veterans, I.U.N.V.A. veterans, Irish Naval Association, Royal British Legion of Ireland, French Foreign Legion Association of Ireland, Saint Mary’s Men’s Shed, Conradh na Gaeilge, Craobh Chathair Luimnigh and Fóras na Gaeilge. The parade will also feature reenactors from En Garde – The Society for Franco-Irish History dressed as soldiers from Napoléon’s Légion irlandaise, a symbolic reminder of Ireland’s role in France’s military history. As part of the Limerick Wild Geese Festival, A Musical Journey Into the Past takes place at 3pm in St Mary’s Cathedral for a unique performance bringing together renowned artists! With a historical and stylistic reach across more than five centuries, Lorcán Mac Mathúna, Martin Tourish, Daire Bracken, Yonit Kosovske, and Wolodymyr Smishkewych sing and play songs and instrumental music from chamber and vernacular traditions which would have been part of the unique sound-worlds that linked the times of Brian Boru with those of Patrick Sarsfield.
