LAST CHANCE The People’s Museum of Limerick presents Coup D’oeil, an exhibition of new paintings by Aisling Burke O’Connor from the 1st to 12th March. Coup D’oeil, a new exhibition by Aisling Burke O’Connor, explores how a glance or glimpse can evoke deep emotional responses, shaping sensory perception. The work examines the link between these fleeting visual impressions and the visceral changes they induce, driven by the autonomic nervous system.
Monday 10th March
To celebrate FemFest 2025, Booker Prize winning author Bernardine Evaristo will be interviewed by award-winning broadcaster and journalist, Ciana Campbell in Mary I at 6.30pm. This will be followed by book signing and refreshments. This is a free event but registration is essential. More info here
UCH Cinema hosts a special Seachtain na Gaeilge screening of Kneecap in the University Concert Hall at 7.30pm, in association with Aonad na Gaeilge, Ollscoil Luimnigh. When fate brings Belfast teacher JJ into the orbit of self-confessed ‘low-life scum’ Naoise & Liam Óg, the needle drops on a hip hop act like no other. Rapping in their native Irish, KNEECAP fast become the unlikely figureheads of a Civil Rights movement to save their mother tongue. But the trio must first overcome police, paramilitaries and politicians trying to silence their defiant sound – whilst their anarchic approach to life often makes them their own worst enemies. First-year students of German in UL are putting on a production of the play Die Nacht so groß wie wir in the Jonathan Swift Theatre (B1023), UL at 7pm. The story follows five friends, who need to confront personal obstacles, (mental) health issues, and crumbling relationships, all while celebrating their secondary school graduation. Taking inspiration from illustrations in medieval manuscripts, A Snail’s Tale tells an unforgettable, entertaining, sometimes surreal story of imaginary creatures once only found in monkish doodles. Sir Babosa, a knight errant and dashing dare-do-well takes to the road to explore, do good and find love for his snailly steed, Mishelle, who is quite unique – truly one in a million – as she is the only left-handed snail in all the land. Travelling a slimy path with his trusty travel scribe and hand-drawn-selfie artist, Isabaeu, he records his daring deeds, acts of gallantry, and fabulous interactions with passers-by. In exchange for help on their quest Sir Babosa and Isabeau – who often find themselves very lost despite their giant map – may gift you with a hand drawn portrait, and if you are very lucky, a lovely, luscious lettuce. The Thomond Wind Ensemble, in collaboration with the Colony High School Orchestra and Choir from Alaska, USA, will present a special concert in celebration of St. Patrick’s Festival in St. Joseph’s Church at 7.30pm. DUG are in Dolans Upstairs at 8pm. Started in October 2023, DUG is the new musical project of Lorkin O’Reilly and California native Jonny Pickett. After spending the past decade in Upstate NY, releasing 2 albums, touring and gaining 24+ million streams on Spotify, Lorkin decided to pack his bags in 2022 and move home to Dublin. The Clonshire Equestrian Centre Charity Show in aid of Milford Care Centre takes place at 9.30am. Milford Care Centre provides invaluable support and care to individuals and families facing serious illness and bereavement. This charity show aims to raise much-needed funds to help them continue their vital work in the community. The Limerick St. Patrick’s Day Parade takes place at 12pm. This exciting theme aims to highlight the vibrant and playful spirit of Limerick, promising a festival filled with joy, creativity, and community engagement. This year’s Grand Marshall is Paralympic silver medallist swimmer Róisín Ní Ríain. The Limerick St. Patrick’s Day parade will begin at Roden Street, move down O’Connell Avenue and O’Connell Street, turn left onto Glentworth Street, turn right onto Henry Street, continue down Henry Street, onwards to Liddy Street and Arthur’s Quay Park. The route then turns left onto Patrick Street before it ends at Rutland Street by Mathew Bridge. More info here
