And we’re back with another Pigtown Listing – your independent guide to What’s On In Limerick. We hope you’re coping well with the January blues. We’ve got a bit more going on this week.

All Week

The Made of Earth Exhibition continues at the Hunt Museum until 6th April. Made of Earth explores the story of clay and ceramics; how they have impacted civilisation and how civilisation has developed through their use. More info here.

Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) organised an exhibition Remember Jim Kemmy in 1998 to mark the death of Jim Kemmy former Mayor of Limerick, T.D. and Councillor. To mark the 25th anniversary of Jim’s death LCGA has brought this exhibition together again, along with some new pieces. Runs until 22nd January. More info here

LCGA is also hosting three more exhibitions. The first exhibition is by artist Brian Fay entitled The Most Recent Forever. The second is by Caroline Dunne entitled Objects of Memories. The third is a collection kindly loaned to the Gallery from the private collection of Maire & Maurice Foley. All exhibitions will run until 12th February. More info here

Rock of Ages Teen Edition presented by Crescent College Comprehensive will take place in the Lime Tree Theatre from Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st January at 8pm. Tickets €10. More info here

UL Graduations taking place in UCH across the week.

Monday 16th January

The IFI @ Belltable Series returns with Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin. It’s set on the fictional island of Inisherin off the west coast of Ireland during the time of the Civil War, where old pals Pádraic (Colin Farrell) and Colm (Brendan Gleeson) have reached a confounding impasse in their friendship. The film was nominated for 8 Golden Globes, winning Best Motion Picture -Musical or Comedy, Best Actor – Musical or Comedy (Farrell), and Best Screenplay. Screenings at 5pm & 8pm. Tickets €8. There’s a Tango Class in the Record Room (Commercial Bar) from 7pm. All levels welcome.

Tuesday 17th January

Limerick & Clare ETB are hosting an Open Day in the Limerick College of Further Education, Mulgrave Street from 10am to 3pm. More info here

Limerick Sports Partnership’s weekly ActiveCities Walking Group is doing the Red Path Walk. Meeting at O’Driscoll’s Bar, Corbally at 11am. No need to register. Just turn up and enjoy the walk.

There’s an Irish Dancing Class in the Record Room (downstairs in the Commercial Bar) from 7pm-8pm. Cost €10. Followed by the Tintéan Sessions take place in the Commercial Bar from 9 pm.

For all knitters/crocheters/cross-stitchers/embroiderers, Pints & Purls is happening in Crew at 7.30 pm

Wednesday 18th January

It’s Salsa Wednesday in the Record Room (Commercial Bar) from 7.30pm until late. Evening classes followed by Latin Social.

It’s Drink & Draw night at Crew Brewing at 8pm.

Thursday 19th January

The Wickham Way Food Court will be open 3pm to 9.30pm

Limerick Educate Together Secondary School is hosting a Fashion Show in the Castletroy Park Hotel at 7.30pm. Raising money to buy a LETSS ASD Unit minibus. All raffle proceeds to CARI Children’s Charity. Tickets €20. More info here.

It’s Irish Language Night at Crew Brewing at 8pm. All levels welcome 

UCH is hosting A contemporary dance performance showcasing the Dance Studies Department of the University of Malta at 7pm. Tickets are free but booking in advance is recommended. More info here

SOLD OUT Comedian Jason Byrne brings his Unblocked to Dolan’s Warehouse at 7.30pm.

Friday 20th January

The Castletroy Farmers Market is open from 10am to 2pm in Castletroy Town Centre

The Milk Market is open from 11am to 3pm.

The Granagh Players present The Foggy Dew in the Granagh Community Centre at 8pm. Tickets €10/€5. More info here

Bad Reputation presents Evile in Dolans at 8pm. Evile are a Metal outfit from Huddersfield, England whoser sound proudly recalls the vintage Thrash Metal sound of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Tickets €19.50. More info here.

The Banbha Quartet play the Belltable at 8pm. They are one of several fine new Irish quartets promoted by the National String Quartet Foundation and are establishing an exciting reputation amongst audiences throughout the country. For this tour they bring a fascinating mix of music, opening with one of Haydn’s ground-breaking and masterly Op.20 set of quartets from 1772. Tickets €20/€18. More info here

Saturday 21st January

The Milk Market is open from 8am to 3pm.

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

The Wickham Way will be open 10am to 3pm with the stalls selling arts, crafts, etc. from 10am to 3pm.

The National Antiques Art & Vintage Fair takes place at the Limerick Racecourse Sat & Sun 11am to 6pm. More info here

The Munster Women’s Team wrap up the 2023 Interprovincial Series with a trip to the Galway Sportsground to take on Connacht at 1pm. Despite only needing a losing bonus point to claim the trophy, Niamh Briggs’ team will no doubt be looking to make it three wins from three. Live coverage on TG4. Tickets here

It’s another exciting day of AIL Rugby with five matches including a local derby. All games start at 2.30pm unless other stated:

Sunday 22nd January

Junior Parkrun is a series of free, weekly 2k runs for children aged 4 to 14. The Limerick Junior Parkrun is held every Sunday at 9:30 am and Shelbourne Park. You need to register once to get your barcode. More info here
