Our Pigtown Pick of the Week is the Lumen Street Theatre’s Samhain Festival which runs from Thursday to Sunday. We also have the Richard Harris International Film Festival running from Thursday to Sunday with multiple screenings taking place. Other highlights include King Kong Company (with T.A. Narrative) in Dolans on Friday, the County Hurling Final in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday and the Micky Martins Halloween Fancy Dress Party on Sunday.

All Week (23rd-29th October)
The 40th EVA International runs until this Sunday in several venues in Limerick city and beyond. EVA International is Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art. Responding to the theme of Citizenship, the 40th edition will feature a ‘Guest Programme’ curated by Sebastian Cichocki, presented alongside new artist commissions as part of EVA’s Platform Commissions and Partnership Project initiatives. Limerick’s All-Ireland Glory 1887-2023 is a special exhibition of Limerick GAA memorabilia, to mark four milestones in Limerick’s proud history of All-Ireland glory. It’s in the Limerick Museum until Tuesday 31st October.
Postcards from Limerick is a special exhibition in St Mary’s Cathedral celebrating 1100 years since the first Viking settlement was founded in Limerick. It contains possibly the largest collection of Limerick-related postcards ever assembled. Runs until November 17th. More info here
The Nights Candles Are Burnt Out: Climate, Culture, Change & Community Exhibition will be on display in The Hunt Museum until Thursday 29th February 2024. The exhibition is co-created by companies involved in alternative energy supply and technology, local communities and contemporary artists interpreting the science and facts, translating the fears and aspirations. Monday 23rd October
The IFI @ Belltable Film Series continues with Ken Loach’s The Old Oak. This film will reportedly Ken Loach’s last film as director. In Northern English city Durham, T.J. Ballantyne (Dave Turner) is the landlord of the titular pub, a rundown establishment that serves as a focal point for a community still scarred by Margaret Thatcher’s devastating attitude to the miners’ strike of the 1980s. Feeling ignored by those in authority, resentment is to the fore when groups of Syrian refugees are housed in the area. Tickets €8. Screenings at 5pm and 8pm. UCH is hosting a special film screening Nosferatu On The Compton Organ at 7.30pm. In this highly influential silent horror film, the mysterious Count Orlok summons Thomas Hutter to his remote Transylvanian castle in the mountains. The eerie Orlok seeks to buy a house near Hutter and his wife, Ellen. After Orlok reveals his vampire nature, Hutter struggles to escape the castle, knowing that Ellen is in grave danger. Meanwhile Orlok’s servant, Knock, prepares for his master to arrive at his new home. The film is accompanied by Ronan Murray on the Compton Organ. Tickets €10. More info here

Tuesday 24th October
Big Shots is a monthly showcase for Limerick filmmakers featuring short films, music videos, sketches and more. It’s taking place in the Record Room from 7pm to 9pm. This month’s films include Tricks by Conor Hooper and FALL by Kathleen Doherty. Tickets €5. More info here
Jack’s Weird & Wonderful Quiz Night is back in Crew Brewing at 7.30pm. Trust us when we say this is not like any Quiz Night you’ve ever been to. Head down early to guarantee a table.
Punchline Comedy Club presents Vittorio Angelone in UCH at 8pm. Vittorio Angelone is an Italian-Irish comedian who grew up in Belfast. After moving to London to train as a classical musician, he eventually switched to stand-up comedy. He has risen through the ranks of the comedy world at an incredible speed, building a following with stand-up clips, podcasts and sketches amassing millions of views online. On stage he’s supported the likes of Jason Manford, Adam Rowe, Shane Todd, and Dan Nightingale. Tickets €15. More info here

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

Castleconnell Frightfest, featuring the Halloween Scary Trail, starts at the Ferry Car park beside the playground in Castleconnell at 6pm. From there you will embark on a chilling adventure by the river, ending up at the Castleoaks Hotel. This event runs in half hour time slots and is suitable for all ages.The event is run entirely by volunteers and all proceeds are reinvested back into the community. The Richard Harris Film Festival is hosting the World Premiere of The Shamrock Spitfire in UCH at 6pm. It tells the story of Irish fighter pilot Brendan “Paddy” Finucane, who at the age of just 21, became the youngest-ever Wing Commander in the Royal Air Force, and one of its greatest and most celebrated fighter aces during World War Two.
