Last week our website was plagued with gremlins so we weren’t able to publish our Limerick Events Guide in time. Major apologies to our readers and to all the event organisers who sent us in events that we didn’t get to highlight. Thankfully, all our tech issues are resolved and we’re back with another great guide to what’s going on in Limerick this week.

Our PIGTOWN PICK OF THE WEEK is the Prima Volta Weekender, a three-day celebration of new and emerging Irish talent with a focus on hip-hop, jazz, and beat-orientated music in The Record Room, Downbeat Record Shop, The Wickham Way and Starling Gallery. Weekend passes for €15. More info here

LAST CHANCE The Creepy Crawlies Love/Hate exhibition is in Hunt Museum until November 21st. This innovative exhibition aims to engage, educate, and inspire visitors of all ages through the fascinating world of bugs and their crucial roles in our biodiversity and daily lives. “Creepy Crawlies: Love/Hate,” is part of The Hunt Museum’s thematic focus of the year – biodiversity. Within the Hours of the Slowest Clock is on display in the Limerick Museum until the 30th November. This is an exhibition of eight large format oil on linen paintings inspired by the Guinness Canal in Limerick. More info here

Chris Boland’s exhibition I Must Have Things is on display in Spaecraft Studios on Thursday 21st November 7pm to 9pm, Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th November and Friday 29th November to Sunday 1st December from 11am to 5pm.

Santa’s Magical Cabin returns to the Jetland Shopping Centre from the 16th November to the 23rd Decemeber. Each ticket includes meeting and interacting with elves, meeting your elf guide, visiting Santa in his Magical Cabin, Santa knowing personal information about each child and an age-appropriate gift from Santa. A professional photographer will be on hand to capture all those magical moments and you can order 8 x 10 framed prints immediately afterwards if you wish. €14 Per Child and €6.50 Per Adult. Local Artist, Grace O’Brien, is holding a two-month solo exhibition, the Best of Both, in the Hunt Cafe. Her first solo exhibition features 24 paintings of local scenery. Runs from the 1st November to the 31st December. More info here 

Get your skates on at Limerick On Ice in Arthurs Quay Park until January 5th. Open 3pm to 8pm weekdays and 10am to 8pm at weekends. Tickets €20/€18/€16. More info here 

Risk/ Reward, Limerick Printmakers at 25 explores the importance of, and power in cultivating resilience as an individual and an artist, while acknowledging the challenges of maintaining this quality in an ever more complex world. Runs from the 21st November to the 12th January in the Limerick City Gallery of Art. Risk/ Reward features a selection of entirely new work from diverse printmakers working within an array of techniques, united by deep engagement within their practice. More info here 

IFI@Belltable presents Pedro Almódovar’s The Room Next Door (2024) in the Belltable at 5pm and 8pm. After years of being out of touch, old friends Martha (Tilda Swinton) and Ingrid (Julianne Moore) meet again in extreme yet poignant circumstances. Martha is terminally ill and has chosen to take her own life; she asks Ingrid to accompany her to a secluded cabin in upstate New York, where she will act as the person in the room next door on the day Martha chooses to be her last. The University Concert Hall presents a screening of Sergio Leone’s For a Few Dollars More at 7.30pm. In the second film of the iconic “Dollars Trilogy,” Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef play rival bounty hunters who team up to track down a gang of outlaws plotting an audacious bank robbery. As part of the Night Time Economy initiative, there’s a  special screening of the acclaimed documentary Don’t Forget to Remember in the People’s Museum at 7.30pm. A very special concert to celebrate the music of one of Limerick’s finest musicians, the world-renowned piper, Mickey Dunne, takes place in the Belltable at 8pm. A Sensory Journey takes place in Dance Limerick at 09.45am and 11.15am. Take a journey through movement, drawing and audio stories with artists from the Creating a Climate for Change in Limerick team. This free event is suitable for adults with additional needs and those who enjoy experiencing a sensory relaxed, interactive performance in a small audience. We Are ArtClub Social Painting is on in House Limerick at 7pm. Come along for step by step instruction on a predrawn canvas. Really Good Time are in Dolans Kasbah at 8pm. Really Good Time are a band from Dublin, that sound like ‘Vertigo’ era U2 covering Viagra Boys, or early Pixies and LCD Soundsystem records in a blender with some cheap speed. They make loud, generally fast music that toes the line between noisy and melodic, weird and anthemic, always aiming to capture the ecstatic release found in a sweaty crowd moving together amidst waves of amplification. Abba Forever comes to the University Concert Hall at 8pm. Abba Forever was formed and is lead by Dennis Scally, an incredible musician who has been at the top of the music game for many years. For 15 years, while based in Los Angles, he was the musical director for The Supremes and toured the world with them. Tickets €30. More info here

The Creating a Climate for Change in Limerick team, artists, collaborators, and participants invite you to an engaging presentation in the Limerick City Gallery of Art at 2pm on the project’s research and insights from the past year. During the discussion, you will hear from key researchers and get insights into the learning that has taken place in Dance Limerick, Moyross and Croom in 2024. Drawings by visual artist Mike O’Brien will be on display, created during community workshops, residencies and exchange events in the communities over the year. These drawings visually document the project’s research, while also capturing important moments and snapshots of the people involved. More info here

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

The Wickham Way Market Stalls &  Food Court will be open 10am to 3pm (food court open til late).

Creating a Climate for Change in Limerick celebrates the culmination of the project at Dance Limerick at 10am with a sensory journey through movement. There will also be the chance to join in a discussion around the project’s themes. The event highlights the collaboration and connection between the artistic team, participants and project partners. The Treaty City Gamers Guild Games Day takes place in the South Court Hotel at 9am. This day is all about celebrating our Guild and the fantastic community that’s grown around it, so come along, bring your games, and let’s make it a great one! Bring your favorite board games, tabletop games, or any of the classics we play regularly. As we’re kicking off a bit of the Christmas spirit early, let’s see a few Christmas jumpers and some Santa hats for extra cheer! More info here

Run 061’s weekly Sunday Long Run starts at 9.30am at the UL Sports Arena. This is a 65-minute run Time on Legs Run. Open to runners of all levels. More info here

Junior Parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 2k event for juniors (4 to 14 year-olds) held every Sunday at 9:30am in Shelbourne Park, Shelbourne Road. It’s free to take part but you need to register online before your first session and bring along your barcode. More info here

Croissant Run Club Limerick, a fun social running group, meets at 9.45am at Arthurs Quay Park for a 3.5km run (followed by a Crossiant). More info here

The pARTake Art Fair takes place from 11am to 3pm in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery of the Hunt Museum. This art event in Limerick is a one-of-kind celebration of contemporary Irish art and creativity offering visitors a unique chance to meet some of Ireland’s most acclaimed artists, explore their creative processes. The University Concert Hall is hosting a screen of Elf at 3pm. Buddy was a baby in an orphanage who stowed away in Santa’s sack and ended up at the North Pole.After being raised as an oversized elf, Buddy travels from the North Pole to New York City to meet his biological father, Walter Hobbs, who doesn’t know he exists and is in desperate need of some Christmas spirit. As part of the Birthday Weekend in Treaty City Brewery, Speakeasy Sunday is on from 3pm to 6pm. Shake off the cobwebs and enjoy some smooth jazz, a refreshing pint of Harris and a delicious artizan toastie.

Experience the Thomond Wind Ensemble – a talented group of 40 musicians, as they take you on a musical journey in the Redemptorist Church at 3pm, showcasing the finest talent from the Mid West region. Tickets €10. More info here  

PIGTOWN PICK OF THE WEEK The Prima Volta Weekender wraps up with Roots Factory, the reunion of the original Limerick Reggae crew on the RiseUp SoundSystem in the Wickham Way from 4pm to 10pm. It’s Games Night in Mickey from 6pm

Local weirdo-experimental-musician and dreamboat Paul O’Connor, aka Licehead Sings the Hits! (and presents his art) in Pharmacia from 7pm. He will be accompanied by PANGUR BREAC, a weirdo-in-arms synth punk noise duo who will entertain with anthems about their favourite cat and the 1921 Anglo Irish treaty debates. Tickets €5. The Quarter Dozen are in Dolans Upstairs at 7.30pm. The Quarter Dozen is an instrumental trio blending traditional, classical, jazz, and Latin influences into original compositions. With piano, drums, and woodwind, they create a dynamic and immersive soundscape that bridges diverse musical worlds, delivering performances rich in rhythm, melody, and innovation. Atlan are in Dolans Warehouse at 8pm. Altan is arguably the most iconic band working in traditional Irish music today. For the past 35 years, they have been bringing the music of their native County Donegal to the world stage. Irish-language songs and dynamic twin-fiddling, the hallmarks of Altan’s sound, framework the band’s newest album, aptly titled Donegal. The album’s 10 tracks pay homage to Donegal’s rich musical heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture. The authenticity and allure of the music transports listeners to a bygone time in rural Ireland while simultaneously forging a connection between the past and modern times. Tickets €28. French/Irish experimental rock duo BICURIOUS make their long awaited return to Limerick in Pharmacia from 8pm. BICURIOS are a two-piece experimnetal rock band based in Dublin/Leipzig. Known for their raucous live shows, BICURIOUS have made a name for themselves around Europe as one of Ireland’s most exhilarating live performers. Tickets €10. More info here 

The Bohemian Vibes Open Mic night kicks off at the Wickham from 8pm.
