We have a bumper, eight-day, Limerick Events Guide this week featuring the Limerick St Patrick’s Festival and host of other festive events for all ages. The highlight of the week is obviously the Limerick City St Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday but there’s so much more going on across the city and county. The Limerick St Patrick’s Festival runs from the 15th to 18th March with loads of events taking place across the city and county. “Limerick: A Different Kind of Energy” is the theme for You can find out more on Limerick.ie/StPatricksFestival or download the festival brochure here

Seachtain na Gaeilge (SnaG) is the annual celebration of the Irish Language. It runs from the 1st-17th of March. Comhluadar Luimnigh and their partners have a great lineup of events in Limerick with something for all age ages and levels. More info here

Fired Up, the LSAD Y3 Ceramic Student Exhibition will be open to the public from the 11th to the 15th March at Gardens International on Henry Street.

The exhibition Ireland Wildlife and Nature by Dominic McNamara is in the Hunt Museum Cafe (extended until 16th March). This is a FREE exhibition. More info here

100 Years of Giving is a new exhibition at Limerick City Gallery of Art celebrating over 750 artworks donated to the public collections of Ireland by The Friends of the National Collections of Ireland (FNCI), which marks its centenary this year. Runs until April 7th. More info here

Eddie Cahill brings his Searching in the Dark exhibition to the Limerick City Gallery of Art. This exhibition has special significance for him as he spent time in Limerick Prison in the 1980s, and he considers his progress from City Jail to LCGA symbolic of his life’s journey. Limerick City Gallery of Art are delighted to present Cosmus by Brigid McLeer, an Irish artist living in London. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to see a large body of her work across a range of media since her last exhibition in Ireland. Runs until April 7th. More info here

The Pagan Ireland and Saint Patrick Exhbition is in Limerick Museum from Thursday 14th March until Monday 15th April. More info here

The Panoramic Wheel returns to Arthurs Quay Park from the 8th of March to the 14th of April. Soar above the city and take in the stunning 360-degree views across Limerick’s skyline on the spectacular 38-metre panoramic wheel. Sky-high fun for all the family! More info here

Due to popular demand, Seeing without Sight returns for a second run in the Hunt Museum (extendeddd until 29th May). Seeing without Sight is a multi-sensory exhibition which enables visitors to experience a selection of Hunt Museum objects through tactile displays and audio descriptions. It has been delivered through an inclusive co-creation process with persons with visual impairment and confirms the museum’s commitment to expanding access and inclusion for persons with disability. Monday 11th March

OSCAR WATCH The IFI@Belltable series continues its series of Oscar winning films with Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things (2023) in the Belltable at 5pm & 8pm. Having recently drowned, Bella (Emma Stone) has, under the grisly and morally questionable ministrations of Dr. Godwin (Willem Dafoe), an unconventional and alarmingly disfigured surgeon in Victorian Scotland, been reanimated with the consciousness of a child. Nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Picture. Rated 18s. Tickets €8. More info here

To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, the University Concert Hall and the University of Limerick present Tarrac, a 2022 Irish language film set along the stunning Kerry coastline. Aoife, a workaholic based in Dublin, reluctantly returns home to Kerry to care for her father after his heart attack. Having left years previously following the death of her mother, the relationship between father and daughter is strained. Slowly, Aoife begins to reconnect with her home and old friends, and by getting involved with local Naomhóg racing, confronts her unresolved grief. In the University Concert Hall at 7.30pm. The 061 Open Mic Night in Charlie Malones from 9pm

The East Asia Film Festival Ireland present Edward Yang’s Yi Yi (2000) in the Belltable at 7.30pm. Yang’s sublime magnum opus Yi Yi (A One and a Two . . .), winner of the Best Director Award at Cannes, follows a middle-class family in Taipei over the course of one year, beginning with a wedding and ending with a funeral. Paddy Fest is an All Day Student Party happening in pubs across the City including Closhessy’s, Charlie Chaplins, Angel Lane, the Black Rabbit, the Monk. Smyths & D’Icon. the Moose and Mollys. Paddy Fest is an All Day Student Party

As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Ceardlann Amharclainne Bosca-bróg (Shoebox Theatre Workshop) for 5-10-year olds takes place in Watch House Cross Library from 3pm – 4pm. This workshop will be hosted Bilingual, as Gaeilge agus i mBéarla. Children make simple characters and use a shoebox as a theatre to tell a story. Free event More info here.

Lava Javas are hosting at an Alternative Céilí for teenages from 5pm to 7pm featuring DIY Musci, poetry and a live trad band with guided dance from the the All Irish Dance Academy

The UCH Music Club Spring 2024 Season returns with Verismo at 6.30pm. Emerging from the shadow of Verdi’s legacy, UCH Music Club kicks off with the original soap opera- the genre of verismo, which scored such colourful hits as Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci and Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur. Once Off Productions presents The Hare, a new play from co-writers Clare Monnelly and Bob Kelly, in the Belltable at 8pm. Directed by Bob Kelly, performed by Úna ní Bhriain with live music by Steve Wickham (The Waterboys). She’s an odd one; a lonely girl living at the edge of the world, ridiculed by her peers and unable to fit in. Torn between the society that rejects her & her own wilder nature, she creates her own world, and lives as best she can. She sees the rest of them, but holds them at a distance. We meet her on the day that is today – and today is made different by the arrival of a letter. An opening. A suggestion of potential life beyond this place and these people. Tickets €22/€20. Trevor Smith’s Friends In Low Places, the Ultimate Garth Brooks Experience, comes to the University Concert Hall at 8pm. Friends In Low Places has been performing in venues across Ireland, the UK and Europe and has been receiving an overwhelming reaction. Tickets €28. More info here

As part of the Belltable Late Night series, Under Cover of Night is a late-night double-bill of artists’ films in the Belltable from 9pm to Midnight. Presented in association with Ormston House. Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

The St Patrick’s Weekend Festivities continue in the Crescent Shopping Centre from 12pm to 2pm with a family friendly event with Giggles Entertainment. Get your photo taken with the Easter Bunny on the City Mall. Enjoy kids face painting, a kids disco with Jacko the Entertainer on the central concourse and meet ‘Lucky the Leprechaun’!

Limerick City will be a hive of activity with the Shamrock Street Shows on Bedford Row and music at The Green Stage on Thomas Street from 1pm to 3pm. From acrobats and stilt walkers to jugglers and circus acts, come see our wacky walkabout performers as they run amok, raising smiles on Bedford Row! Toe-tapping is the theme on Thomas Street, where “The Green Stage” will be ready for local musicians to entertain, from modern music to traditional tunes. Free event. More info here

As part of the Belltable Late Night series, Hardware is a new concept club event taking place in the Belltable from 7pm to midnight. Musicians; Brawni, Chaz Moloney, Paddy Mulcahy & Rustal combine their systems to create a 4 hour live improvised performance in the theatre. Visual artists; Alt For Jesus, Diabhal666, Fannylander, Glossy Boi, Mankyy & Ohhi Ohno will be exhibiting work to the theme of “ENERGY” . Exhibition curated by Ohhi Ohno. Artists will have works available for purchase on the night! Finally, the downstairs cafe will be lined with soft furnishings to create the ultimate Ambient Lounge, to chill out to the sounds of local hero Jack Brolly. Tickets €18. More info here

The St Patrick’s Weekend Festivities continue in Treaty City Brewery from 7.30pm to 11.30pm with three live vinyl DJ’s spinning sounds in the Brewery!

George Murphy And The Rising Sons are in Dolans Warehouse from 8pm. George Murphy is an Irish singer songwriter who hails from the Dublin suburb of Beaumount. He exploded onto the Irish music scene after his memorable appearances on the RTE Television show “You’re a Star”. Just out of secondary school at the age of 17 he very quickly took over the Irish music scene.  Tickets €24. More info here

The St. Patrick’s Day 5k/10k Run takes place in the Croom Sports Complex. The 10k run starts at 9am while the the 5k fun run/walk starts at 9.15am. More info here

The Limerick City St Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 12pm, heading from O’Connell Avenue (Roden Street junction) to Rutland Street. This year’s parade will see visual artists Buí Bolg join Lumen Street Theatre, Limerick Youth Dance Company, the Hit Machine Drummers and hundreds of local participants! Limerick student Seán O’Sullivan from Coláiste Chiaráin, winner of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition, will be the Grand Marshal for the 2024 parade. More info here
