Pigtown Listings 15th-21st August 2022

Thanks to everyone who shared last week’s Pigtown Listings. The whole purpose of this blog is to help spread the word about events in our city. The more people that share the links, the more chance someone might stumble across it, see an event that interests them and head along. And, as a good friend of mine says, if you go to things, there will be more things. So onto this week. And what a week we have lined up. In a week with Denise Chaila, the Coronas and Paolo Nutini, the competition for our Pigtown Pick of the Week Continue Reading

Pigtown Listings 8th-14th August 2022

So after a few weeeks of wrestling with the gremlins, the website is back up and running. In the meantime, I’ve been working on the Pigtown Directory which will go live in the next fortnight. The Pigtown Directory will replace the support local section and will be an indepedent directory of Limerick’s Pubs, Restaurants, Cafes, Hotels, Tourist attractions etc for locals and tourists alike. Thanks to everyone who replied to my tweets to help source this information. In the meantime, there’s plenty going on this week including HER Outdoors Week and the Under 21 World Lacrosse Championship. Our Pigtown Pick Continue Reading

Pigtown Listings – 24th-30th January 2022

Well, we definitely didn’t think we’d be here so quickly, did we? It looks like Covid restrictions are being lifted. With that in mind, I thought it was a good time to resurrect the Pigtown Listings. As always, all events and times are subject to change (especially so this week). I’ll try keep this updated throughout the week but please check with individual event organisers for more information. Also, remember that event/venue staff are going to be under a lot of pressure in the coming days – don’t be a gowl and add to the stress. All week Celebrating one Continue Reading

Bandcamp Friday – May 2021

If the rumours are to be believed, this might be the last Bandcamp Friday for a while. If you’re not familar with Bandcamp Friday, it’s when music sales website Bandcamp doesn’t charge commissions on sales for one day each month. Why is that important? It means up and coming musicians get 100% of the money for purchases. So if you want to support local music, this is the best way to do it. And given all that’s happened in the last year, I think it’s fair to say they deserve a helping hand for getting us through it all. So Continue Reading

Seven Fun Things To Do This Week – 19th October

There’s a lot of uncertainty around at the moment. As we write this, we’re no closer to figuring out if we’re moving to level 5 or even to level 4. All we can do is keep doing our best. Keep your distance, wash your hands and wear a mask. With no events going on, we thought a different approach to the weekly listing was needed. So for the next few weeks, we’re going to bring you a list of Seven Fun Things You Can Do This Week. It will be a mix of online events, walking routes, music/book recommendations, sporting Continue Reading

Pigtown Listings – 17th – 23rd August

UPDATE: With the new Covid-19 restrictions announced on Tuesday and the weather warnings in place, it is likely that many events will be cancelled, rescheduled or modified. With all events listed, please check in advance if the event is going ahead (most require pre-booking anyway) and always follow the safety instructions of event organisers at all times. In some respects this year seems to never end but it’s also moving very quickly at the same time. Only seems like yesterday that I resumed doing the Pigtown Listings each week but that was the 6th of July. Where has the last Continue Reading

Pigtown Listings – 10th – 16th August

So welcome to another Pigtown Listings. Unfortunately, we now know the pubs won’t be opening up this week. This will be disappointing for a lot of you, not least those who are waiting to return to work. That said, there’s still plenty to do in Limerick this week. Therefore, if you’re attending any of the events listed below, be sensible. Please respect the event organisers’ Covid-19 procedures. Wear your facemask if required. Most of these events require pre-booking so check the links provided in advance. Our Pigtown Pick of the Week is the 5th Annual 10K Charity Paddle for Rapecrisis Continue Reading

Bandcamp Friday – August Releases

Bandcamp are once again dropping their fees on purchases made today. This is a great opportunity to support local musicians and bands by buying their music and merch. Ahead of this month’s #BandcampFriday, we’ve had a look at some of the Limerick artists you should look at supporting. (You should also check out our post in May which has a number of other acts worth checking out). Bandcamp releases Windings are doing a clearout of their merch this week. They have Vinyl, CDs, T-shirt’s, magnets etc all priced to clear. The money raised will go towards helping the band finish Continue Reading

Limerick Podcasts

Don’t you just love a good podcast? Whether its while relaxing at home, as background music while you work or a soundtrack to your run, there’s something nice about listening to someone talk. This week we’re going to look at some Limerick Podcasts (either featuring Limerick people or about Limerick) that are worth checking out. Food for Thought To begin with, we’ll start with the obvious one – the Blindboy Podcast. Since he first started recording his weekly podcast in October 2017, Blindboy has gained a cult following well beyond the Rubberbandits fanbase. His podcast is consistently one at the Continue Reading
