Sorry for the lack of content over the last two weeks. Life got in the way. But we’re back with yet another bumper week of events here in Limerick.

This week’s Limerick Events Guide is dedicated to Deirdre Carey who can’t attend any of the great events listed below but she’s with us in spirit.

All Week (25th September-1st October)

The 40th EVA International will take place from 31 August – 29 October 2023 across venues in Limerick city and beyond. EVA International is Ireland’s Biennial of Contemporary Art. Responding to the theme of Citizenship, the 40th edition will feature a ‘Guest Programme’ curated by Sebastian Cichocki, presented alongside new artist commissions as part of EVA’s Platform Commissions and Partnership Project initiatives. Ireland through my Lens is an Exhibition of photographs from travels around Ireland by amateur Limerick photographer Michael Brislane. It will be on display in Saint Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick until Saturday 30th September.

Limerick’s All-Ireland Glory 1887-2023 is a special exhibition of Limerick GAA memorabilia, to mark four milestones in Limerick’s proud history of All-Ireland glory. It’s in the Limerick Museum until Tuesday 31st October.

Postcards from Limerick is a special exhibition in St Mary’s Cathedral celebrating 1100 years since the first Viking settlement was founded in Limerick. It contains possibly the largest collection of Limerick-related postcards ever assembled. Runs until November 17th. More info here

European Week of Sport takes place from the 23rd – 30th September. It aims to promote sport and physical activity in countries across Europe regardless of age, background, or fitness levels. Limerick Sports Partnership have a number of activities taking place across the week. More info here

Monday 25th September

Scéalta & Rannta (Storytime and Rhymes as Gaeilge) will take place in the City Library at 10.30am. This is a free event and is suited to younger children. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Booking is not required.

As part of European Week of Sport, there’s an Activator Walking session in Clare St Park at 4:30pm This is the start of a 6 week programme. More info here

The IFI@Belltable Autumn Series continues with L’Immensita (2022). L’Immensita tells the story of two outsiders trying to escape the limitations of their environment in Emanuele Crialese’s vibrant family drama. Penélope Cruz lights up the screen as Clara Borghetti, a Spanish expat, and an exuberant, impulsive, and at times somewhat manic mother to three children in Rome in the 1970s. Screenings at 5pm & 8pm. Tickets €8. More info here

Comedian Bruna Louise brings her Portuguese language show Burn Out to the Lime Tree Theatre at 7pm. Tickets €34. More info here

There’s a Tango class at the Record Room (Commercial Bar) from 7:30pm. €10 per class. All levels are catered for.

An Evening With Franco Morone takes place in the Parnell Pavillion at 7.30pm. Tickets €10. More info here

The University Concert Hall is hosting a screening of The Shawshank Redemption at 7.30pm. Tickets are free to everyone, but are limited so must be booked in advance. More info here

Poet and author Edward O’Dwyer is set to launch his highly anticipated second book of stories, The Man Who Became Poems, at 7.30pm in the Shannon Suite of the Strand Hotel, Limerick.

It’s Open Mic Night in Charlie Malones from 9pm

Tuesday 26th September

Limerick Sports Partnership’s weekly ActiveCities Walking Group is doing the Baggot Estate Walk. Meeting at the People’s Park at 11am. No need to register. Just turn up and enjoy the walk.

The West Limerick Walk is taking place in the Newcastle West Demesne at 11am. Meet at the entrance to the Demesne (Soccer Car Park). Just come along and enjoy the walk!

The Hunt & Gather Slow Fashion Market takes place in the Wickham Way from 5pm to 9pm with a number of vendors selling second-hand/pre-loved items.

The Light Moves Festival is holding a Programme Launch in Dance Limerick at 6pm, ahead of the four-day festival in November. The programme will be launched by guest speaker Helen Phelan Director of the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance at the University of Limerick. Rachel Sheil and Conor O’Brien will present the live premiere of their new film ‘Untitled Piece Of’, a collaborative dance short made in Limerick city this year. More info here

A free talk by Dr Mary Ryan, Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist, Author of ‘It’s Probably Your Hormones’, and contributor to RTE & TV3 will take place at 6.30pm in Watch House Cross Library. More info here

The Art Collective Club are running Art Classes in the People’s Museum from 7pm to 8.30pm. Email [email protected] for more details

The Pints & Purls casual crafting and pinting meetup is in Crew from 7:30pm onwards.

As part of the Castleconnell Autumn Concert Series, British pianist Leon McCawley will perform at All Saints Church in Castleconnell at 8pm. McCawley has been delighting audiences worldwide since winning, in 1993, first prize in the International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna and second prize in the Leeds International Piano Competition. As part of European Week of Sport, there’s the MoveWell: Active Neuro Walking Group is meeting Mungret Park at 11am. Tailored to those living with Neurological conditions. More info here

Join Michelle and Sarah in Watch House Cross Library at 3.30pm for Junior Bookclub. It’s an opportunity for children to meet and chat about books they love, explore new authors, to enrich their imaginations and have fun! Books are provided each month in advance. 7-9 year olds from 3.30 to 4pm. 9-12 year olds @ 3.30-4.15pm. More info here

It’s Prose, Pints & Poetry night in The Wickham from 7pm

As part of European Week of Sport, there’s a Discover Badminton Together session in St John’s Pavillion at 7pm. More info here

Déardaoin Rúnda: Nights at the Museum is a series of free events every Thursday at the Hunt Museum. More info here

Liz Nolan (RTÉ Lyric FM) is back with The Friends of UCH Music Club at 6.30pm. This week, Music Club sets the pace with a sampler from four centuries of iconic choral showcases: music of Britten, Gorecki, Poulenc, Whitacre and more. Tickets €85/€70. More info here

Ireland Is…, a spoken word roadshow featuring Colm Keegan, Erin Fornoff and Felispeaks (Felicia Olusanya) is in the Lime Tree Theatre at 8pm. Mockie Ah are hosting a Drag Ball in Pharmacia from 9pm. Hosted by Candy Warhol with special guests Richard Joke and Sabrina Bewitched from Belfast. Saturday 30th September

The Milk Market is open from 8am to 3pm.

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

The Wickham Way Market Stalls & Food Court will be open 10am to 3pm.

Designer Minds STEAM Club will take place in Mary I at 9.30am – 10.30am and 10.45am – 11.45am. Designer Minds weekly clubs are for curious kids who love to design, create, code and experiment! More info here

Rugby returns to Thomond Park with an amazing Double Header event. First up, Munster Women take on the Barbarians at 2pm. That’s followed by the Men’s taking on the Barbarians Men at 4.30pm. Gates open at 1pm and the Fan Zone will be located inside the ground at the North terrace end. The URC trophy will be on display for supporters to take a closer look and get their photo taken with the silverware. A family Pack of four tickets is available for €40 with individual adult tickets from €20. More info here

Munster Double Header

Artist and writer Declan Shalvey (Moon Knight, Deadpool, Daredevil, Return of Wolverine) will be signing copies of his new graphic novel ‘Old Dog’ in O’Mahony’s at 2pm. Declan will even do a quick little sketch in the book for people too! More info here

PIGTOWN PICK OF THE WEEK The Full Moon Rising festival is happening from 4pm at Séanie’s farm in Kilmeedy village. This volunteer ran community event promises to be an unforgettable night under the full moon, where we’ll have a diverse range of live music, food and much more. Experience the magic of the full moon rising over our beautiful Kilmeedy countryside where you’ll connect with friends, old and maybe some new! Tickets €60 per ticket – includes 4 free drink tokens.
