Carmel O’Doherty, a native of Kilmallock, returns to her roots with Roots and Reflections: Exploring the Landscape, a vibrant exhibition of impressionistic landscapes and seascapes at Friars Gate Theatre. Since retiring in October 2024, Carmel has devoted herself fully to her artistic practice. Working primarily in oils with palette knives, she creates dynamic and expressive landscapes that reflect the energy and emotion of the natural world. Her bold use of colour and visible, textured brushstrokes bring a tactile quality to her work, particularly in her evocative coastal scenes. Runs until Tuesday 30th September. More info here

Limerick Museum will host A Tribute In Thread: Limerick’s Forgotten Lacemakers curated by Dr Zara Power, Assistant Curator Limerick Museum, with the assistance of Friends of Lace Limerick. While other crafts venerate and value the maker, in the case of Limerick lace, the lacemakers are largely forgotten. Lacemakers were not part of a guild; did not imprint their names on their wares; were often from the poorer strata of society; and perhaps most importantly, were comprised of women and children, a grouping often marginalised in traditional histories. Runs until Tuesday 30th September. More info here

From ‘Dickie to Richard’ – Richard Harris: Role of a Lifetime, an exhibition celebrating the extraordinary life and career of Richard Harris, the award-winning actor and global star who never lost his deep connection to Limerick, his hometown, is on display in the Hunt Museum from the Friday 4th July to Sunday 16th November. From his early years as a gifted athlete and lover of poetry to his rise on London’s stages and Hollywood screens, Harris forged a path marked by talent, resilience, and fearless reinvention. A collaboration between the Harris Family, the Hunt Museum, and University College Cork (UCC), the exhibition draws on the remarkable Harris Archive, generously donated to UCC by the actor’s family in 2022. Tickets €12. More info here

Ormston House in collaboration with EVA International presents Bíodh Orm Anocht from Friday 29th August to Sunday 26th October. Bíodh Orm Anocht, roughly translating to ‘be with me tonight’, is a group exhibition featuring new and existing artworks by four artists – Seán Hannan, Laura Ní Fhlaibhín, Ciarán Ó Dochartaigh, and Kiera O’Toole – presented at Ormston House and off-site locations. These four artists convey knowledge that transcends language and which is all the more potent because it remains unwritten and unspoken. Each artist is concerned with the metaphorical qualities of materials. They draw from disciplines outside the visual arts (including mythology, zoology, and cartography), infusing them with personal meaning. Inherent in these works is the possibility that atavistic wisdom may be sourced from the natural world. More info here

In a world brimming with distraction he cuts through the noise, offering something rare: music that speaks to the soul, unafraid to challenge, unafraid to awaken.
