What a weekend that was! Limerick really can put on a show. This coming week might be a bit quieter than last week but still lots to do from live music and theatre to sport and comedy. Our Pigtown Pick of the Week is Goose Chase Theatre’s Stage Freights – a night of spooky plays in the Record Room on Monday and Tuesday. All Week (23rd-29th October)

Limerick’s All-Ireland Glory 1887-2023 is a special exhibition of Limerick GAA memorabilia, to mark four milestones in Limerick’s proud history of All-Ireland glory. It’s in the Limerick Museum until Tuesday 31st October.

Postcards from Limerick is a special exhibition in St Mary’s Cathedral celebrating 1100 years since the first Viking settlement was founded in Limerick. It contains possibly the largest collection of Limerick-related postcards ever assembled. Runs until November 17th. More info here

The Nights Candles Are Burnt Out: Climate, Culture, Change & Community Exhibition will be on display in The Hunt Museum until Thursday 29th February 2024. The exhibition is co-created by companies involved in alternative energy supply and technology, local communities and contemporary artists interpreting the science and facts, translating the fears and aspirations. More info here

 An exhibition Atlantic Embrace by Nici Le Gear will be on display at The Hunt Museum Café until Monday 1st January.

SOLD OUT The Curraghchase Pumpkin Patch is running in the Curraghchase Garden Centre until the 31st October. More info here

The Scare Factory is running from Thursday 19th to the 31st October in the Old Cleeves Factory. There are 6 slots each day from 7.30pm to 9.30. Tickets from €20. More info here

The Richard Harris International Film Festival is an annual celebration of film, both Irish and International. It runs from Wednesday 25th to Monday 30th. More info here

Monday 30th October (Bank Holiday)

The People’s Museum is running Halloween Spooktacular Tours at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. An hour-long tour, suitable for children aged 7 years and older, will look at some of the spookier parts of Limerick’s history, with some fables and vampire hunting tales as well for good measure! Tuesday 31st October (Halloween)

Limerick Sports Partnership’s weekly ActiveCities Walking Group is doing the Shannon Fields walk. Meeting at Clare St Park at 11am. No need to register. Just turn up and enjoy the walk.

Scauldy Selectz and Sector 63 present a spooky techno party in the dungeon from 7pm till later. Spanning over the two floors of Alfies Earls Pub and Club061. Expect high quality fast paced techno hardgroove and everything in-between. Tickets €10. More info here

Pints n’Purls (Crafting night) is in Crew Brewing from 7.30pm. For knitters, crocheters, cross-stitchers and generally sound people.

American post-punk No Wave band Bush Tetras play Dolans Kasbah at 8pm. Bush Tetras have made punk music at the fringes for over four decades. Flashes of reggae, bursts of noise, guitars that rattle, shake and snake, born out of a gutter behind CBGBs. Over the years they have respawned time and time again, contorting their sound, tweaking the vision, remaining singular and indispensable. Support by the amazing T.A. Narrative. Tickets €25. Hippie Goth Freaks return to Pharmacia with an alternative spooky little disco.

Wednesday 1st November

Ag Taibhseoireacht, a night of horror fiction and ghost stories read by five local Limerick writers, takes place in the People’s Museum at 7.30pm. Free event. More info here

It’s Salsa Wednesday in the Record Room from 7.30pm until late. €10 per class.

It’s Drink & Draw night at Crew Brewing at 8pm.

Dublin quartet The Scratch play Dolans Warehouse at 8pm. The Scratch are a four-piece band that sound like no one else you’ve ever heard before, featuring Conor Dockery (guitar, backing vocals), Cathal McKenna (bass/backing vocals), Daniel Lang (cajón, percussion, lead vocals), and Jordan O’Leary (guitar, lead vocals). Like all the great progressive musicians, they turn music on its head and pour their hearts and souls into their art to forge something original and new.  Support by Really Good Time. Tickets €22. Limerick Civic Trust’s Autumn Lecture Series continues with Rev. Peter Owen-Jones in the People’s Museum at 8pm. Rev. Peter Owen-Jones is a Anglican priest, author, environmental advocate, BBC TV series presenter and TEDx Speaker. Tickets €22.42. More info here

Toshín, lead by the powerful voice of Toisin Bankole, is vibrant 6-piece band who take their inspiration from a variety of music spanning from early Motown to modern soul/RnB artists such as Tank and the Bangas and Anderson .Paak. Quintessence Theatre presents The Curious Case of Albert Cashier: Lincoln’s ‘Lady’ Soldier in the Belltable at 8pm. Set in Belvidere, Illinois, 1862, a young Irishman, Albert D.J. Cashier, enlists with the Union Army in the Civil War and becomes a decorated hero. But unknown to his comrades, Private Cashier is waging an internal war all of his own. Tickets €20/€18. More info here

Ormston House presents Gleo, a series of concerts of ambient and experimental music. Kicking things off, Michael Lightborne presents Water Damage at 9pm. Water Damage is an audio-visual trip through the Blackwater valley, exploring the deep entanglement of Irish rivers with agriculture and politics, places and people, health and life, myth and memory. Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

It’s DIA de Muertos (Day of the Dead) in The Wickham from 4pm. An evening of traditional Mexican music and dress, to celebrate life and to honour our deceased loved ones. The celebrations begin at 4pm with face painting on a first come, first served basis (tickets must be presented). At 6pm there will be live folk music and dance. Prizes will be given for the best Catrinas and Catrines on the day. Traditional Mexican food will be available from Republic of Grill in Wickam Way (Not included in ticket). Tickets €12.50. Songs of the Pavee is a unique concert featuring Thomas McCarthy, the music artist who was the focus of last year’s RTE documentary, Songs of the Open Road. It takes place in the Belltable at 8pm. Songs of the Pavee also features Limerick artist Willzee alongside four Traveller women Rosie McCarthy, Kathleen Keenan, Mary Keenan and Trish Reilly. who have been safeguarding songs from their community’s oral tradition, passed on through the generations. Presented by The GAFF as part of their Inic 2023 programme, supported by Creative Ireland, The Arts Council and the HSE from Traveller Wellbeing through Creativity fund. Tickets €20/€15.
