And so we come to the final Limerick Events Guide of 2024. It’s been a phenomenal year across all our platforms. I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for engaging with our content this year. I hope you’ve found the information useful and you’ve been able to make to some amazing events you wouldn’t have known about. Looking forward to another great year of Limerick Events in 2025.

I’ve added all the New Years Eve events in Limerick that I know about. If I come across more before then, I’ll do my best to include them. If I’m missing your event, please let me know

The Egg-straordinary Specsavers Limerick Panto, Mother Goose, comes to University Concert Hall this December from Thursday 19th December to Sunday 12th January. Poor Mother Goose is struggling to get by on her meagre pension. Her two sons Seamus and Gussie are pretty hopeless at earning money, but they help her on the farm looking after her geese. Mother Goose’s Fairy Godmother sees how hard things are getting and sends her a goose that lays golden eggs. This makes Mother Goose very happy and very rich. But money turns Mother Goose into a different person, and she becomes distracted by the evil Demon Vanity as she goes off seeking a magic elixir to bring her youth and beauty. However, Vanity is just trying to steal Priscilla, the golden goose for themselves. More info here

As part of the First Fortnight Fest, the Where’s Your Head At? exhibition is on display at the Hunt Museum from the 5th to the 14th January. A collection of artists and individuals connected to First Fortnight and the wider arts community sat with artist Emily Quinn for a portrait photoshoot and discussed what they do to support their mental health. The resulting exhibition of smiling faces and stories of how we mind our mental health is a reminder that joy can exist alongside the tough conversations, that we can share hope of better days ahead, and that community is one of our most powerful assets. The Limerick Panto Society presents Goldilocks The Circus Panto in the Millennium Theatre, TUS, from Thursday 27th December to Sunday 5th January. Get ready to meet the dazzling Goldilocks, the hilarious trio of bears, and all the amazing circus performers who will bring this magical story to life! More info here 

Fossett’s Christmas Circus returns to Cleeves on O’Callaghan Strand from Thursday 12th December to Sunday 5th January. Step into the heated festive big top and be swept away with amazing acrobatic presentations, daredevil stunts and a sprinkle of festive Fossett magic. Join Otto the clown and the Queen of Irish Circus, Marion Fossett in a unique Circus Show – a must see in Limerick this Christmas! Local Artist, Grace O’Brien, is holding a two-month solo exhibition, the Best of Both, in the Hunt Cafe. Her first solo exhibition features 24 paintings of local scenery. Runs from the 1st November to the 31st December. More info here 

Get your skates on at Limerick On Ice in Arthurs Quay Park until January 5th. Open 3pm to 8pm weekdays and 10am to 8pm at weekends. Tickets €20/€18/€16. More info here 

The Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD) is hosting its highly anticipated 2024 Christmas Showcase, running from December 3rd to 23rd in the Old Debenhams Store. Showcasing the work of more than 100 talented artists, the exhibition offers a dynamic mix of mediums including fashion, ceramics, fine art, photography and sculpture. Featured artists include Ann McBride, Lidija Savickaite, Gavin Hogg, Frank McCarthy (representing Paint Punch), Tina O’Connell, Shane Vaughan of Limerick Printmakers and many more. More info here

Ormston House presents The Limerick Show, a showcase of works by emerging and established artists. This is a celebration of the breadth of art being produced in Limerick (city and county) today, showcasing thirty-nine artists and spanning painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, and video. This edition has no theme, but there are recurring motifs and subjects. Runs from the 29th November to the 1st February. More info here

Risk/ Reward, Limerick Printmakers at 25 explores the importance of, and power in cultivating resilience as an individual and an artist, while acknowledging the challenges of maintaining this quality in an ever more complex world. Runs from the 21st November to the 12th January in the Limerick City Gallery of Art. Risk/ Reward features a selection of entirely new work from diverse printmakers working within an array of techniques, united by deep engagement within their practice. More info here

Discover Kwaidan – Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn at The Hunt Museum, showcasing an extraordinary collection of prints by 20 Japanese artists and 20 Irish artists. Inspired by Hearn’s ghostly tales, the works reflect a range of techniques and artistic perspectives, each transforming these eerie stories into compelling visual pieces. The exhibition explores the intersection of folklore, storytelling, and the shared cultural heritage between Ireland and Japan. Runs until 22nd February. More info here 

The Big Limerick Seisiún with live music and dance takes place every evening in the Locke Bar at 5pm and 9pm

Eamon Hehir & Band are in the Blue Bar (Green Yard Café) from 7pm

Ger O’Donnell and Trevor Sexton are in Dolans Warehouse at 8pm. Ger O Donnell and Trevor Sexton are two vocal powerhouses whose close harmonies and instrumental styles complement each other beautifully. A duo greater than the sum of its individual parts, their mix of traditional and original material interspersed with sprinklings of witty banter has transfixed audiences throughout the country. Although relatively new to the scene as a duo, 2023 has seen them become a sensation – selling out shows nationwide on the back of their online popularity. Tickets €22. More info here

Hermitage Green are holding a special New Year’s Eve All Ages Matinee gig in Dolans Warehouse at 3pm. Formed in Limerick, Hermitage Green has become a staple of the Irish music scene, known for their compelling fusion of folk, rock, and traditional Irish influences. The band’s powerful live shows have captivated audiences worldwide, and their latest album, Connections, is a testament to their continued evolution and artistry. Tickets €38. More info here

The O’Malleys play their traditional New Year’s Eve concert in Dolans Upstairs from 8pm. The O’Malleys have been playing together for almost 40 years and the band boasts some of the best musicians Limerick has produced. The range of instruments and influences brought to the group by each individual member are credited as that which gives the band its very unique sound. Tickets €15. More info here

We Turn Tables are in Melody from 8pm. Featuring A.O.D., Ross Purcell and Chris Hewitt. Tickets €20. More info here

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at House Limerick from 8pm. Take a trip to the Las Vegas Strip. Try your luck by playing on one of House Limerick’s casino tables. A gorgeous canape menu will be served on the night to accompany a glass of bubbles. This night will have everything you will need to feel like you are on the Vegas Strip. It’s going to be a night to remember, so grab your friends and come party. Don’t miss out on the fun – mark your calendars and get ready to countdown to midnight. The dress code is Black Tie. Marty B, Twisty & Rob are in the Still House from 8pm

The Afropop NYE Party kicks off in Mollys from 8pm. Tickets on the door

Barry Purcell (8pm-10pm) and Andy Rhodes (10.3pm-12.30am) will be celebrating the New Year in the Gate Bar. Tickets €5 and include a complimentary pint of draft. Tickets available at the bar.

Cardinals will be playing a special New Years Eve gig in Dolans Kasbah from 9pm. Cardinals start as a joke between two sixteen-year-olds in a sleepy fishing town on the southern coast of Ireland. A whole joke-taken-to-heart later and their difference is marked by an early immersion in Cork’s live music scene, ‘we wanted to juxtapose ourselves,’ says frontman Euan Manning, ‘we have pop-leaning influences and didn’t want to shy away from that.’ Now barely twenty, the six-piece are next in an Irish line changing the sound of alternative music. The Milk Market Saturday Food Market is open from 8am to 3pm.

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

Start the New Year off with a bang and shake off those Christmas cobwebs with a relaxing Yoga session at Lough Gur Visitor Centre with Úna O’Rourke at 10am. Tickets €15. More info here

The Limerick Toy Fair is on in the Castletroy Park Hotel from 10.30am. Whether you’re experienced in this hobby of collecting models or just starting out, the Limerick Toy Fair is one you should certainly attend. Taking place just after Christmas, it has a special social side to it and everyone has a great catch-up. Tickets €5. More info here
