All Week (16th-22nd September)
The Hospital Arts & Culture Festival, an arts and culture festival with an emphasis on engaging local community, schools and young people, takes place from Wednesday to Sunday. This is an annual festival of theatre, music, window art, speakers, writers, poets, school and club participation, aiming to empower the rural community of Hospital and its hinterland, and in particular, the primary and community secondary school, with almost a thousand students. The festival features a number of events including music, science, dance, speakers, storytelling and much more! More info here
Odysseys of Self by Tina O’Connell is on display in the Limerick City Gallery of Art until 6th October. Tina O’Connell received the Limerick City Gallery of Art/LCGA Graduate Exhibition Award in 2024. The works are autobiographical narratives, sculpted reflections of her experiences navigating the complex realms of memory, motherhood, mental health and contemporary society. Free Entry. Vivienne Bogan’s Spontaneous Self Exhibition is on display in the Limerick City Gallery of Art until 10th November. The exhibition is the first major institutional show by the artist in LCGA. Bogan is a graduate of LSAD and has had an illustrious career with work in several public and private collections nationally and internationally. Free Entry. More info here
Ormston House presents The Sky is Falling!, a group exhibition featuring contributions from Ceara Conway, Seoidín O’Sullivan, Scott Rogers, and Christopher Steenson, on display until the 16th November. Featuring new and existing works, the exhibition is the culmination of several years of research into the corncrake, a species of bird approaching extinction in Ireland and the UK. More info here
The Creepy Crawlies Love/Hate exhibition is in Hunt Museum until November 21st. This innovative exhibition aims to engage, educate, and inspire visitors of all ages through the fascinating world of bugs and their crucial roles in our biodiversity and daily lives. “Creepy Crawlies: Love/Hate,” is part of The Hunt Museum’s thematic focus of the year – biodiversity. Monday 9th September
The IFI@Belltable Film Series presents La Chimera (2023) in the Belltable at 5pm and 8pm. On his release from prison, Arthur (Josh O’Connor) immediately visits Flora (Isabella Rossellini), mother of his lost love. Although Arthur’s tendency is to keep to himself, he soon falls in with a group of tombaroli, grave robbers who loot the ancient Etruscan tombs prevalent in the area for goods to sell on the black market, the very activity that put Arthur in jail in the first place. Sean MacLeod is giving a free talk entitled Behind the Wall of Illusion – the Religious, Esoteric and Occult Worlds of the Beatles in Quay Books at 7.30pm. But the most successful group in popular music also crossed paths with many spiritual movements, religious groups, esoteric philosophies, and mystical teachings.
