Alternative rock band Fox Jaw have been announced as the 2020 recipients of the Dolores O’Riordan Music Bursary by the Limerick Culture & Arts Office.
The Bursary, launched last year to honour the late Cranberries singer. It grants up to €4,000 each year to a Limerick professional musician/band to develop their career. The first recipient was Emma Langford in 2019. Following an open call in April, Fox Jaw were chosen as this year’s recipients of the bursary.
Fox Jaw comprises of Ronan Mitchell, Morgan Nolan, Shane Serrano, Manolis Pates and Kieran J. Sims. The band have been making music together for almost 20 years. Their latest album, Breathe in the Strange, was released in February and is available on band camp.
When Covid-19 forced the Country into lockdown, the band we’re unable to meet to rehearse or record. Instead they started recording the “Covid Covers”, a series of recordings/videos of popular songs in their own unique style. The series includes classics such as ‘Ghost Town’ by The Specials, ‘Just Dropped In’ by Kenny Rogers, ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears and ‘You Know I’m No Good’ by Amy Winehouse
According to a statement on instagram, the band say they are delighted to be awarded the Dolores O’Riordan Bursary. They plan to use it to upgrade their recording equipment so they can continue to record music until they can meet up again.
