Five Things To Do This Weekend - 30th June
Art Limerick

Every weekend, 19 Nicholas Street plays host to a pop-up gallery featuring the creative work of several members of Limerick’s artistic community. This weekend’s featured artists are Grace, Anastasia, Kerry, and Veronica. The Gallery is located next to King John’s Castle. You can also grab a coffee next door at Castleview Coffee (who we featured last week)

The Popup Gallery is open from 10.30am Friday to Sunday. You can find out more on ArtLimerick.com.

Explore: Curraghchase Forest Park

Curraghchase Forest Park

If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, a visit to Curraghchase Forest Park might be the solution. The park contains over 300 hectares of forest for you to explore. There are six walking trails of various lengths including the Lake Trail (1.1km, 20mins, access for all), the Curragh Trail (2.4km, 30 mins, easy), and the Glenisca Trail (3.6km, 1 hour, moderate). There’s also a permanent orienteering course, picnic area, playground, and an arboretum. Overlooking the lake you’ll see the remains of Curraghchase house which was destroyed in a fire in 1941. Keep an eye out for the pet cemetery on the grounds.

There’s a cafe in the Caravan Park as well as the Potting Shed Cafe in the nearby Garden Centre. Entry to the park costs €5 per car. You can find out more here

Drink: The Wickham

The Wickham

If you’re a fan of funky cocktails, look no further than the Wickham. The Wickham is a small but inviting little bar that specializes in cocktails with a difference. While traditional favorites such as the Long Island Iced Tea or a Porn Star Martini can be found on the menu, they also have a few more experimental recipes on offer. We’re big fans of the Popcorn Old Fashioned and the Cotton Candy Cosmo

Located next door to the Wickham Way marketplace, it’s an ideal spot to stop in for a drink over the weekend. The Bohemian Vibes Open Mic night on Sunday evenings is well worth checking out as well.

Walk: Shannon Fields Walk

Our walk of the Week is the Shannon Fields Walk. Starting at Athlunkard Bridge in Corbally, it follows the River Shannon towards Guinness’ Bridge (the white bridge). From here you can take the Canal Bank walk into the City or the Riverwalk out to UL. The 3.2km route is dedicated to Limerick Olympian and World Cross Country Champion Michael O’Shea. Along the way, you’ll find some outside exercise machines. Find out more here

Listen: T.A. Narative

If you were lucky to make it to the Kraftwerk After-Party on Wednesday night, you would have been treated to an amazing gig by T.A. Narrative. They’re a two-piece electro-pop band from Limerick comprised of Tara and Anna. They release their new EP Retro Futurism back in March. It features If I Was A Man which is an absolute banger of track. Definitely, one to play on repeat this weekend.

You can find them on Bandcamp and Spotify
