Back during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021, we had started a Things To Do This Weekend series and we thought that it was time to bring it back. The goal here is to pick five things every weekend for you to do, see, taste, or explore in Limerick. We hope you find something each week that suits your tastes. We’re always looking for suggestions so drop us a line. Here’s our first listing of the new series.
Walk: Three bridges walk
The Three Bridges Walk was the go-to daily ramble for many during the pandemic and while many of us might have walked it to death (pun absolutely intended), it remains the definitive Limerick walk.
There are plenty of spots to stop off along the 3.6km for a coffee (Jack Mondays, Castleview Coffee, Abbey River Coffee), a pint (JJ Bowles, Treaty City) or a meal (The Locke, Curragower, Katie Dalys, Milanos). For the little ones, there’s a great Street Art Scavenger Hunt (Thanks to Lumen Street Theatre). We strongly recommend popping into the Hunt Museum Garden along your walk
And if you do it this Saturday evening, you might even get to hear the dulcet tones of Bell X1 as they play Live at the Castle.
Activity: Escape Limerick
I know in the middle of summer, suggesting an indoor activity but if you’re looking to get out of the sun, Escape Limerick might be the solution. If you’ve never done an Escape Room, the concept is simple. You and five friends are locked in a room and you have one hour to decipher a series of clues to escape.
Escape Limerick is situated on Nicolas St, above the Cinema Cafe (Styx Cafe to those of a certain vintage). There are three themed rooms: a pirate ship, Frank McCourt’s classroom, and the dungeon of King John’s Castle. Each has its own set of fiendish challenges for you to solve. We won’t say too much more as we don’t want to spoil the surprise but this is a great way to kill an hour with some friends.

Attraction: The People’s Museum of Limerick
Sitting quietly in Limerick’s Georgian Quarter, the People’s Museum of Limerick is one of the city’s best-kept secrets. Located in number 2 Perry’s Square, a beautifully restored Georgian townhouse, the museum hosts a fascinating mix of items held by the Limerick Civic Trust as well as items loaned to the museum by from time to time.
The current exhibition is a celebration of the Limerick and District Motor Cycle Club in the Coach House. This free exhibition contains an incredible collection of motorcycles, trophies, Club Badges and photographs from the clubs history, going back to 1968.
The Museum is open 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday and 12pm to 4pm on Sundays.
Experience:Wickham way
The Wickham Way is fast becoming a must-visit destination every weekend. Every Saturday morning, they host an eclectic range of stalls selling different locally produced products.
And no trip to the Wickham Way is complete without visiting one of the various food trucks including Street Food Done Good, Republic of Grill, Raasta Foods, and Square Circil Pizza. The food court is open from Thursday to Sunday (usually until the delicious food runs out). And to finish off, pop in next door to The Wickham for a refreshing cocktail.
