Thanks to everyone who shared last week’s Pigtown Listings. The whole purpose of this blog is to help spread the word about events in our city. The more people that share the links, the more chance someone might stumble across it, see an event that interests them and head along. And, as a good friend of mine says, if you go to things, there will be more things.
So onto this week. And what a week we have lined up. In a week with Denise Chaila, the Coronas and Paolo Nutini, the competition for our Pigtown Pick of the Week is tough but, after much deliberation, it has to be Feile Na Greine. This homegrown festival makes a triumphant return to the streets of Limerick with a jampacked programme featuring 26 artists across six venues. Hosts this year include Treaty City Brewery, Crew Brewing, the Commercial Bar, Mother Macs, Pharmacia and Spacecraft Studios.

The Hunt Museum hosts The Artefacts Project by Lorcan Walshe until 11th Sept. More info here
The Limerick City Art Gallery is hosting an exhibition called Pulse celebrating emerging artists. Runs until 18th Sept. More info here

The World Lacrosse Men’s U21 World Championship continues until Sunday in UL

Monday 15th August
As part of National Heritage Week, the Ballyhoura Outdoor Classroom is hosting an all-ages, free tour of the plants and animals found at Griston Bog from 10 am to 12 noon. More info here
Meanwhile, in the Limerick Museum, Merrie O’Sullivan is giving a talk entiled The Legacy of Amy Whitelegge – Lace Designer, Lacemaker and Teacher from 2:30 pm to 4pm. More info here
Crew Brewing at hosting Ale Talks at 7pm. This month’s guest is the Hopfully Brewing Co. Tickets are €20 and are available from the bar.
Tuesday 16th August
As part of Friars Gate Theatre Summer Movies for Kids, LUCA will be screened at 2.30 pm. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. To book call 063 98727. More info here
The Limerick Sports Partnership ActiveCities Walk is exploring Baggot Estate today. Meeting at 11 am at People’s Park.
As part of Heritage Week, The People’s Museum hosts The Flag, the Soldiers, and the Rebellion: The untold story of the artefact that was brought back to Limerick 100 years after the Rising. Runs from 1 pm to 1.45 pm. More info here
For all knitters/crocheters/cross-stitchers/embroiderers, Pints & Purls is a new meetup happening in Crew at 7.30 pm
Hup na Houra takes place in the Old Chapel Rooms, Kilfinane at 8pm. It’s a candlelit seated show which celebrates the history and life of the local area through music, song and dance and enjoy complimentary local artisan produce, tea and coffee.
The Tintéan Sessions take place in the Commercial Bar from 8.30 pm.
Wednesday 17th August
As part of Ormston House’s National Heritage Week programme, Sharon Slater will give a talk investigating the history of Wolfe Tone Street through the stories of people who once lived there. Investigating Wolfe Tone Street is the first in a series of events and workshops curated by Niamh Brown. Taking place in Charlie Malone’s bar from 7-8pm. Admission is free and all are welcome. Lough Gur Visitor Centre is hosting a walking tour exploring Cladh na Leac, Lough Gur’s least known ancient monument, at 7.30 pm. More info here

Saturday 20th August
The Milk Market is open from 8am to 3pm.
Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.
GOSHH & Sporting Pride are running Ride with Pride along the Limerick Greenway. Meeting at the Limerick Greenway Bike Hire shop in Rathkeale at 9.45am and cycling the full 37km route to Abbeyfeale. More info here
The Wickham Way will be open 10am to 10pm with the stalls selling arts, crafts, etc. from 10am to 3pm.
The Cappamore Agricultural Show 2022 will take place at the showground, Ballyvoreen, Cappamore. The Cappamore Show incorporates displays and competitions in areas such as cookery, crafts, agricultural and horticultural produce, and other areas that draw on the traditional skills, arts and crafts of the region, as well as more traditional show sections such as cattle and horse showing, and jumping classes. As part of Ormston House’s National Heritage Week programme, Mary Conroy will guide a slow walk with Historian-in-Residence Sharon Slater Exploring Wolfe Tone Street. This walk will focus on the cultural heritage of the street while allowing participants to observe the street in a contemporary context, gathering visual clues to its past and present functions through artistic processes. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, it will have been hard to miss the meteoric rise of Denise Chaila over the past two years. It’s the final day of Féile na Gréine. Spacecraft Studio is hosting a photography exhibition entitled Inhibition. Treaty City host Natalia Beylis, Citrus Fresh and Fixity from 1pm – 4pm. The Commercial hosts Vacuity, Zeropunkt, Son Zept, Emmy Shigeta, I Dreamed I Dreamed and Messyng from 5pm to 11pm. After all that, the Afterparty kicks off at 11pm in Pharmacia.
The Milk Market is hosting a Weekly Live Music Session from 12noon to 2.30pm in association with the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance.
