Bandcamp Day

The current Covid-19 restrictions have been very tough on musicians as they lose out on earnings from gigs. This means they’re even more reliant on sales of their music and a site like Bandcamp is vital for this. If you’re not familiar with Bandcamp, it’s an online platform where emerging artists can sell their music and reach new audiences.

To help artists in this time, Bandcamp is waivings its fees on online sales for 24 hours today (it will be doing the same on the first Fridays of June and July). This will be a huge benefit to local artists at the moment so make sure you log on and if you can, please support them today. Here’s some Limerick musicians who have some new music you should check out and, of course, buy:

Windings have released a new album, Stray Dogs, which comprises of 10 years of incredible non-album, b-side, and live tracks. Available as a limited edition cassette release as well as a digital download. https://windings.bandcamp.com/

Emma Langford has released a new single Mariana which will feature on her upcoming album Sowing Acorns (which you can preorder). https://emmalangfordmusic.bandcamp.com/

Rising hip-hop star Denise Chaila has a new single Down which is all about not putting people into boxes. https://denisechaila.bandcamp.com/

The members of music collective DIY LK have been busy recently releasing the The Bed Covers, a 7 track album featuring artists such as Anna’s Anchor, Bleeding Heart Pigeons, Cruiser, Casavettes, His father’s voice, Hey Rusty and Scenes covering each other’s songs from their bedrooms. All money raised from this will go directly to Doras Luimní. https://diylk.bandcamp.com/

Speaking of Bleeding Heart Pigeons, Mícheál, Cathal and Brendan have released Trapped, the second single from our upcoming LP Stir which is available at 15% for pre-orders ahead of it’s May 22nd release. https://bleedingheartpigeons.bandcamp.com/

In what has to be one of our favourite cross-genre collaborations at the moment, rapper MuRli teams up with folk-act King Pallas for Brick by Brick. https://kingpallas.bandcamp.com/track/murli-x-king-pallas-brick-by-brick

Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies have been doing a lot of interesting collaborations recently with three tracks, Stuck in the System (with DJ Limewire), Quack (with Acid Granny) and FM Birds parts I, II & III (with Liv 3), now available on their page. https://postpunkpodgeandthetechnohippies.bandcamp.com/

Rapper GavinDaVinci has just released a new mixtape entitled Please, don’t listen to my shit if you love me which despite the name is well worth a listen to. https://gavindoylemusic.bandcamp.com/

Thanks to Steve from Windings who pointed us in the direction of several Limerick artists who have new material available today. If there’s anyone missing, leave a comment or send us a tweet @pigtowntimes

And remember, please do what you can to support local artists in this time. Music and the arts is what’s getting us through these uncertain times.
