What a week we’ve just had with three amazing gigs in the Castle as well as a host of other events in venues across Limerick. Did you make it to something this week? What was your favourite event?

This week is dominated by events for Limerick Pride Week with loads going on from Monday to Sunday. Our Pigtown Pick of the Week is Ann Blake’s The Morning After The Life Before in Dolans on Thursday. There are also a number of Alternative Pride events happening throughout the week. Oh, and some guy called Dermot is doing some gigs.

It’s Limerick Pride Week with events on every day. This year, Limerick Pride is commemorating the 30-year anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. Find out more on LimerickPride.ie

SOLD OUT The Ireland We Dream/ed Of is a critical and community arts programme running from 3–6 July at Ormston House. This programme invites a wide range of communities to engage with LGBTQIA+ individuals, creative practitioners, activists, and thinkers to build the Ireland we dream/ed of.

The Visions of an Unsettled Earth Exhibition will be on display in the Hunt Museum from Thursday 4th May to Friday 14th July. More info here

For the month of July, Kilmallock Library is hosting The GAFF’s audio and photographic exhibition Tiny Little Histories, a community-sharing programme that brings untold histories from the Midwest to life. More info here

The World Archery Youth Championship takes place in UL from Wednesday to Sunday. More info here.

Painted Poems is a new exhibition at the Hunt Café by Julianne Guinee running from July 4th to August 31st. More info here

Monday 3rd July

Join Limerick Sports Partnership for Let’s Play Limerick, a celebration of Play in the People’s Park at 11am. Free event. All ages are welcome. More info here

United in Solidarity, the official launch of Limerick Pride 2023 will be held at the International Rugby Experience from 6pm to 8pm with a wine reception and a panel discussion on LGBTQ people in sport with Pride Parade Grand Marshall Jackie McCarthy O’Brien and other notable sporting personalities, hosted by sporting commentator Fiona Hayes. SOLD OUT The Launch of The Ireland We Dream/ed Of and The Elders of the Long Table takes place in Ormston House at 6pm. Inspired by the Split Britches Long Table at Outburst Arts Festival 2022, this adapted Long Table focuses on intergenerational connections between LGBTQIA+ community members. Moderated by Raevynna El Messaoudi (TLC, Transgender Europe) and led by Elders in Residence Rita Wild and Cathal Kerrigan. This event will be lived streamed. More info here

There’s a Tango class at the Record Room (Commercial Bar) from 7:30pm. €10 per class. All levels catered for.

Drag Heaven, as part of Limerick Pride, takes place from 9pm at McGettigans featuring a night of drag performances from Miss Bliss, Elle Uminati and many more. More info here

Tuesday 4th July

Limerick Sports Partnership’s weekly ActiveCities Walking Group is doing the Castletroy Urban Greenway Walk. Meeting at the Kilmurry Lodge at 11am. No need to register. Just turn up and enjoy the walk.

30 Years of Queer History takes place at the Hunt Museum at 6pm featuring a discussion with historian Sharon Slater and Adam Long of the National LGBT Federation, about the 30-year anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Ireland. Limerick actor and playwright Myles Breen will tell his own personal story about his experiences before and after this landmark moment in LGBTQAI rights. More info here

Wednesday 5th July

Scéalaíocht le Paddy O’Brien (Storytelling with Paddy O’Brien) takes place in the Limerick Library at 2pm. This is a free workshop for children between 0 and 12 years of age, and their parents, to spread the Irish language. More info here

Print with Pride with Limerick Printmakers from 4.30pm to 6pm, is a free event where you can bring along your t-shirts, jumpers, tote bags, or simply use some of the paper at the event, to create your own custom Limerick Pride Silk Screen art piece. More info here

Dance Limerick DL.BRIDGE with Pride & Goshh takes place at 6pm in Dance Limerick, St. Johns Square. DL. Bridge Pride is a contemporary dance project for all LGBTQI+ identifying people. Doors 5.30pm, show starts 6pm. More info here

SOLD OUT SRÓN GO SRÓN – Beginners Céilí (part of The Ireland We Dream/ed Of) is in Ormston at 6pm. Taking a community-led approach to traditional dance, artist Eimear Walshe and musician Zoe Basha will host an introduction to group dancing. The beginners’ céilí will be accompanied with live music by the Culchie Goth Céilí Band, led by acclaimed queer fiddle player Helen Brady. More info here

Our PIGTOWN PICK OF THE WEEK is The Morning After The Life Before by Ann Blake at 7pm in Dolans Warehouse. After a sell-out performance at last year’s Limerick Pride and due to phenomenal demand, The Morning After The Life Before by Ann Blake. Gúna Nua presents the internationally acclaimed, multi-award-winning play for one night only. The show is a personal, entertaining tale of weddings, ‘coming out’ and arguments over who takes out the bins. Over 14’s only. More info here

The Limerick Women’s Shed and Walking Buddies are doing the Three Bridges Walk, meeting at Arthurs Quay Park at 7.30pm. Please wear comfortable walking gear and please remember that this walk is wide open to the public. You do not have to be a member or the Women’s Shed or Walking Buddies, everyone is very welcome. Join Irish Examiner GAA writer Anthony Daly and guests for Dalo’s Hurling Show on tour in the Woodlands House Hotel, Adare at 7.30pm. Dalo will be joined by regular podcast guests TJ Ryan and Mark Landers for all the buildup to the All-Ireland hurling semi-finals. Tickets €25. More info here

As part of Limerick Pride Mockie Ah takes place at Pharmacia at 9pm, featuring Ireland’s biggest Drag Haus and queer collective. A tour-de-force of camp, comedy, absolute bangers, and sparkling sequins. Mockie Ah is a celebration of all things camp, queer, nostalgic and oh so very Irish. It is a safe space where everyone is welcomed, loved, embraced, and covered in glitter! Tickets from €11.70. More info here

The Limerick Pride Youth Party is in Lava Javas at 5pm. Presented by Limerick Youth Service, young people (14-19yrs) from Limerick and beyond are invited to enjoy music and meet new people at this free event. The team will also be preparing for Limerick’s Pride Parade which takes place the following day. Registration with GOSHH essential.

Dyke Date & Dash is a speed dating event for dykes and those who love dykes! The session is approximately an hour with 4 minutes for each date with some intervals for cocktails! Happening in the Wickham at 6pm. More info here

Search Results and Thee U.F.O. play Pharmacia at 7.30pm. Thee U.F.O known for their chaotic live shows, bordering on disaster. This tour is surely one not to be missed, with the band set to bring out a bunch of new tunes and freakish jams. More info here

Saturday 1st July

The Milk Market is open from 8am to 3pm.

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

The highlight of Pride Week is of course, the Limerick Pride Parade. Gathering at Merchants Quay, City Hall from 12.20pm for floats, with groups gathering from 12.50pm. The Parade will leave strictly at 2pm, the Parade will make its way up O Connell Street, across Mallow Street to Henry Street, past Arthurs Quay Park, ending at the Hunt Museum. More info here

After the Parade, PrideFest 2023 at the Hunt Museum is a showcase of local LGBT culture in a lavish marquee in the museum gardens from 3pm – 6pm. This is a free family-friendly event with a cone van, cafe and bar on-site, live music and plenty of entertainment including the Annual Tea Dance with Myles Breen.

DYKE Nite (an alternative Pride event) takes Pharmacia from 3pm til late. DYKE Nite is a party for lovers and others: for trans women and men, butches and bisexuals, fags and femmes, sapphics and stones, and everyone in between. Featuring performances from Frida Nip, Robert Von Hart, Roibí Ó Rua, Carlhartt, Culchie Goth & Marilyn Manhole and DJ sets from the afternoon to early hours across Pharmacia. We’ll have sets from some of Ireland’s most exciting selectors including Rhyzine (Honeypot), Temperance (Mockie Ah), PAULINE, DJ Egg, DJ FOR04, GODWIN, Kloya, NEEV and Renn (DIAxDEM). Online tickets are sold out but tickets will be available on the door.

The Limerick Pride Climax Party Ft. The Vivienne takes place at Dolans Warehouse from 9pm with International drag artist The Vivienne headlining a stellar line up including ‘Dragged Up’ with Paul Ryder, Regina George and Pixie hosted by Victoria Secret. Junior Parkrun is a series of free, weekly 2k runs for children aged 4 to 14. The Limerick Junior Parkrun is held every Sunday at 9:30am and Shelbourne Park. You need to register once to get your barcode. More info here

Head Above Water for Mental Health takes place at the Curraghgour Boat Club from 10.30am. Activities on the morning will include a Cold Dip, Yoga, Breathwork Activity and music. All proceeds go to Limerick Suicide Watch. More info here
