We got a great response to last week’s Five Things To Do This Weekend feature that we’ve decided to keep it up. Our goal here is to suggest five different experiences for you each week such as tourist attractions, walking routes, pubs, cafes, books, albums and podcasts. We’re always looking for new suggestions so please drop us a message.
As well as these experiences, don’t forget to check out our events listing for the week
Explore: The Limerick Greenway
The Limerick Greenway is a 39km walking/cycling path built along the old Limerick-Tralee railway line. It goes from Rathkeale to Abbeyfeale, passing Ardagh, Newcastle West, Barnagh and Templeglantine along the way. As you walk or cycle this incredible route, you will come across Ferguson’s Viaduct, Barnagh Tunnell as well as the many former train stations that used to serve the railway line. Whether you’re doing the whole route or taking it in sections, it’s a great day out for all the family. Find out more on https://www.limerick.ie/greenway
Don’t have a bike? No worries. Limerick Greenway Bike Hire have you sorted. They have hubs in Rathkeale, Newcastle West and Abbeyfeale and offer a shuttle bus service to bring you back (weekends in June, 7 days a week during July & August). Find out more on LimerickGreenwayBikeHire.ie.
Please note: A short 2km stretch between the Newcastle West Greenway Car Park and Killard Cross in Ardagh has been closed recently due to construction work. This is due to reopen this weekend but please plan accordingly
Cafe: Castleview Coffee
Castleview Coffee has to be one of the best-kept secrets in Limerick. Located in the historic Widows Alms Houses off Nicholas Street, it’s the perfect stopping-off point along the Three Bridges Walk. If you’ve never been down the Alms Houses laneway, you’re missing out on a piece of Limerick history and now you can enjoy a lovely cup of Keith Earl’s Eleven Fourteen coffee while taking in one of the best views of the Castle and the River Shannon. Castleview Coffee is a social enterprise led by Limerick Island Community Partners offering barista training to people in receipt of social welfare.

Attraction: Limerick City Gallery of Art
The Limerick City Gallery of Art is located on Pery’s Square. It’s the largest contemporary art gallery in the Mid-Western Region. The collection started in 1936 and now contains 831 historic and contemporary works from 456 artists.
As well as the permanent collection, the Gallery also hosts regular visiting exhibitions. This weekend is your last chance to see Onomatopoeia by Limerick painter Diana Copperwhite.
After checking out the artwork, pop into Zest Cafe at the back of the building. It has a fantastic view of the People’s Park.
Open Monday- Saturday 10am – 5pm and Sunday 12 – 5pm. Free Admission. Find out more on Gallery.Limerick.ie
Pub: Crew Brewing
Craft beer lovers will love Crew Brewing at the top of Thomas Street. Crew is a small brew-pub that produces its own beer in the building. Every time you go into Crew, you never know what delicious beer you’ll get. Some of the current beers on tap include Acapulco Gold Hazy Pale Ale, Swings & Roundabouts Hazy IPA, Apricot & Vanilla Sour, Mash-up American Pale Ale, Good Morning Session IPA and a Vanilla Milk Stout as well as a series of guest taps. Crew prides itself on being “brewed by friends, for friends” as well as being very dog-friendly (don’t be offended if your dog gets served before you).
We strongly recommend you pop in for Street Food Sundays from 1pm until 5pm (or when the food is sold out). Every Sunday they team up with Alex in Street Food Done Good in the Wickham Way to bring you a delicious meal and a pint for €15.
Follow Crew on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram for updates.
