The Blas International Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance takes place in the Irish World Academy of Music & Dance from the 24th June until 5th July. More info here

Faces and Places, a visual Art Exhibition by Jim Furlong and Barry Lemasney will be on display at The People’s Museum from Tuesday 2nd – Sunday 14th July. More info here 

The Limerick Bastille Day Wild Geese Festival, organised by Alliance Française Limerick, is back for the sixth consecutive year. It commemorates the historical episode of the Flight of the Wild Geese and celebrates the long-standing friendship between Ireland and France with several events taking place on Saturday and Sunday. The Irish Fitness Championships 2024 takes place in Crossfit Limerick from Friday to Sunday. More info here

SOLD OUT The iconic Paul Weller plays Live at the Castle from 7pm. Weller, known for his time with the Jam in the 70s, the Style Council in the 80s and later as a solo artist, has left an indelible mark on the British music scene that still influences acts today. More info here 

The Pig’N’Porter Marquee Midsummer Comedy Gig will take place at 7pm at the Old Crescent RFC Grounds. Left on Read will perform Upstairs at Dolans at 8pm. Hailing from Limerick in Ireland, Left on Read began as a series of impromptu jams between friends at sessions and open mics in their city. “It was a no-brainer to start a band with our best mates,” the band recalls. “We were just having so much fun”. Forming in 2020 to work on a couple of demos together, the band has developed their sound far beyond those humble beginnings. The band’s love for experimentation has allowed them the opportunity to play with different styles and the already have a huge catalog of music in their locker ready to call on. Tickets €10. PIGTOWN PICK OF THE WEEK Featuring a whole host of local legends, Music for Palestine takes place in Pharmacia from 9pm with Post Punk Podge & The Technohippies, T.A. Limerick’s favourite crooner Liam O’Brien returns to the Savoy Hotel at 9pm with the music of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Tickets €55 including a three-course meal. More info here.

The Milk Market is open from 8am to 3pm.

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

The legendary Pig n’Porter tag rugby tournament starts at 10am and runs until 5.30pm in Old Crescent RFC, Takumi Park, Rosbrien and the nearby Crescent College school. The equally iconic Pig n’Porter After Party takes place Saturday evening from 7pm in Old Crescent RFC with live music from Ten Strings and the Bentley Boys. A DJ set from JJ Hartigan keeps the party going late into the night. More info here

The Wickham Way Market Stalls &  Food Court will be open 10am to 3pm (food court open til late).

The Wild Geese Museum will be open from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday in its temporary home, the Coach House, People’s Museum. It tells the story of the Wild Geese, these Irish soldiers who, since the 17th century, went abroad to serve in the armies of various countries. Free entry.

The Art4Limerick Pop-Up Gallery is open from 10.30am to 5.30pm. It’s located at 19 Nicholas St. More info here

As part of the Wild Geese Festival, a short ceremony will be held at 10.30am at the Patrick Sarsfield statue to mark the restoration of the gate in front of the statue. Free event

Breathe Better Yoga hosts Park Yoga every Saturday (weather depending) in the People’s Park from 11am. Donation based. Please bring your own yoga mat.

As part of the Wild Geese Festival, the Annual Pétanque Tournament will take place from 11am to 5pm in the Hunt Museum Garden. Free, but pre-booking compulsory. Teams of three. Four teams maximum. Email [email protected] to register

Saturday Arts & Crafts for Children takes place from 11am to 4pm at Watch House Cross Library. A fresh set of craft materials will be provided. Collect your art materials from the library desk and make something to take home, to display in the library or both! This is a self-guided activity so children must be accompanied and assisted by their grown-up. No booking required. More info here

As part of the Wild Geese Festival, An afternoon of animations will take place from 1pm to 4pm in the Hunt Museum Garden. The event will include historical reenactments from En Garde (the Society for Franco Irish History), a dance performance by Scoil Uí Ruairc, a traditional stick fighting demo by Brian Moloney and live music from the Saint Mary’s Prize Band, the Limerick School of Music, the Saint Mary’s Men’s Shed and from traditional musicians (courtesy of Conradh na Gaeilge, Craobh Chathair Luimnigh and Fóras na Gaeilge). New this year, there will even be a barbecue in partnership with the Hunt Museum Café! Free entry for all.

Monk Fest returns to Pharmacia from 3pm till late. A day of BBQ, pints and craic, with the From The Depths Metal Podcast lads spinning tunes and providing the banter. A night of crushingly heavy music by seven bands from the Cursed Monk roster, and a raffle with some excellent prizes to raise money for Temple St. Childrens Hospital. Tickets €22.42. The Annual Wild Geese Festival Procession takes place at 2pm from King John’s Castle to Saint Mary’s Cathedral. Join a joyful and colourful procession, led by the reenactors from En Garde (Society for Franco-Irish History) m, departing from the area in front of King John’s Castle and going to the United Nations Peace Garden in front of Saint Mary’s Cathedral, via Nicholas Street, just on time for the ceremony which will be held there. The Annual Limerick Wild Geese Festival Show starring the Lorcán Mac Mathúna Trio and Zoé Basha takes place at 3pm in the magnificent surroundings of Saint Mary’s Cathedral! Free entry. More info here

TELEVISED Limerick will play Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Semi-Final at 4pm in Croke Park. Live coverage on RTE, BBC and Limerick’s Live 95fm. More info here

The Wild Geese Festival concludes with the Farewell to Patrick Sarsfield reenactment at 5pm at the Curraghgour Boat Club, Merchant’s Quay. Free for all.
