The Ireland and the Birth of Europe exhibition returns to the Hunt Museum until June 20th. Ireland and the Birth of Europe tells the story of the part played by Irish scholars and missionaries in the early history of the European idea, especially their cultural role in the consolidation of the empire built by the Carolingians, an empire that covered most of western Europe. This timely exhibition marks 50 years since Ireland joined the European Economic Community (EEC) in 1973. More info here

This Place – A Ukrainian Story in West Limerick, a new audio-visual exhibition by John D. Morris and Connie Broderick, exploring the rich and compelling story of Ukrainian refugees, is in the Hunt Museum from the 19th to the 25th June

The 18th Annual River of Dreams Quilt Exhibition will be on display from Friday 21st to Friday 28th June from 10am to 5pm daily in the Church Gallery at TUS Limerick School of Art and Design. The 18th River of Dreams Quilt exhibition is a vibrant, volunteer driven exhibition. This year there will be more than 80 Quilts on display from both local and national Quilters. More info here

Dermot Mulligan is giving a free talk on Connecting Medieval Europe – St Willibrord, Patron Saint of Luxembourg, First Apostle of the Netherlands and his County Carlow Connection in the Hunt Museum at 1pm. St Willibrord is one of the most important Saints in Europe, particularly in the early medieval period immediately after the traumatic fallout from the collapse of the Roman Empire. As part of the Lough Gur Visitor Centre‘s Summer Solstice, there’s a Foraging, Wild Foods and Herbal Extraction Workshop with the Wild Siog from 12pm to 3pm. This three hour workshop delves into the art of foraging unraveling the medicinal secrets and nutritional value of Irish Wild herbs. Participants learn to identify a wide range of Wild Irish Herbs according to the seasons and the various methods of extraction and preservation are discussed. Tara will demonstrate how to make a vitamin rich tonic for Winter and everyone can sample an array of wild foods on the day. Participants are gifted a booklet of wild food recipes to try at home and a hand-rolled beeswax candle as a memento of the day. This workshop is practical, accessible and good fun. Ormston House will host the launch of The Book of Invasions, a new publication by writer and artist Nathan O’Donnell, on Saturday, 22 June from 3pm – 5pm. As part of the River Residencies programme, over the summer of 2021, O’Donnell spent several weeks on the Tipperary shoreline of Lough Derg, exploring its history, ecology, and topography, all the while gathering stories about swimming on the lake. The Book of Invasions is a record of this process, devised in consultation with local respondents and designed by Clare Bell. More info here

The main feature, Magic Piano (30 minutes), tells the story of Anna and Chip-Chip’s adventure of discovery aboard a magic, flying piano.
