All Week (4th-9th August)
Summer in the City is a vibrant month-long programme of free and family-friendly events taking place throughout August across Limerick City. Delivered by Limerick City and County Council, Summer in the City transforms streets, quays and public spaces into vibrant destinations where people can gather, connect, relax and enjoy the very best of summer in the heart of Limerick. Throughout August, the city centre comes alive with an exciting programme of entertainment, culture, sport, wellness and community activities designed to appeal to all ages, creating opportunities for residents and visitors alike to experience the city in new and engaging ways. The Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championships 2026 will take place at Limerick Racecourse from 6th – 9th August 2026, bringing international athletes, teams and supporters to Limerick for four days of world-class obstacle course racing. The programme will include 100m and 400m obstacle races, short and standard-distance courses, team relays, junior events. The Championships will showcase Limerick as an international sporting destination while creating a vibrant and inclusive experience for athletes, spectators and the local community. More info here
The 3rd European Sport for All Games will take place in Limerick from 7th – 10th August 2026. The five-day Games will bring together over 250 participants from 26 European delegations, transforming parks, streets and public spaces into a vibrant and colourful celebration of traditional sports, games, heritage and culture. Demonstrations and performances will take place across the city, and people of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part. More info here
Limerick Golf Club will play host to the 116th Irish PGA Championship from Sunday 2nd to Wednesday 5th August. The prestigious championship was last held at Limerick Golf Club in 1973 where Jimmy Kinsella prevailed in a successful defence of his title, shortly after winning the Madrid Open on the European Tour. In association with Limerick Arts Office, Limerick Showcase 1 presents a selection of some of the finest Limerick associated artists to the public, featuring Painting, Photography, Print and Interventionism in Istabraq Hall, City Hall, Merchants Quay from Friday 7th to Friday 21st August. Rory Prout, Céline Mermier, Seán Healy, Melanie O’Rourke, Pamela Dunne and Seán Guinan will display works in this showcase, much of it created especially for this curated show. With the artists originating from Leitrim, Lyon, Tipperary, Dublin and Limerick, there has been a cultural draw and magnetism to this city and county over many years, and this cross section is a mere, but representative sample. Limerick City Gallery of Art is delighted to present Quantum Listening by Trudi van der Elsen, a contemporary multi-media artist, originally from the Netherlands and now based in the West of Ireland. It’s on display from the 25th June to 30th August 2026. ‘Quantum Listening’ the title given to a body of work that explores the relationship between the human body and the wider world, and the invisible frequencies that connect them. Working across painting, photography, video and performance, the artist weaves together forms of matter, agency, subjectivity and objectivity. More info here
The Frances Quillinan Collection, an Exhibition curated by Maurice Quillinan will be on display in Saint Mary’s Cathedral from Thursday 16th July to Monday 31st August. Frances Vera Butcher was born in Kent, England, in 1929, the elder daughter of Reginald Butcher, an architect and Vera Butcher. Frances began her architectural education at the Regent Street Polytechnic in London in 1946 and graduated in 1951. Immediately following graduation, she established an independent practice under the title F. V. Butcher, Chartered Architect, ARIBA, alongside her employment with the London County Council, later the Greater London Council. In the late 1950s, during a holiday in Ireland, Frances met her future husband, Maurice Quillinan. They married in 1960 and made their home in Limerick, where Maurice served as Harbour Master at Limerick Docks. In 1960, she joined the Architects’ Department of Limerick Corporation, becoming the first woman architect to be employed by the local authority. Frances’s employment at Limerick Corporation was initially temporary, a situation that caused her considerable frustration. Although she was effectively carrying out the duties of senior architect, the Corporation refused to appoint her permanently to that position because, as a married woman, she was automatically deemed ineligible. Ormston House presents Energy Made Visible from Friday 10th July to Saturday 5th September. Energy Made Visible is a group exhibition centred around the paintings of Michael Ashur (1950–2024). Known for his meticulous airbrushed compositions, Ashur’s work is concerned with solar systems, celestial bodies, and overlaps between artistic and scientific disciplines. This exhibition at Ormston House, Limerick, places Ashur’s work in dialogue with four contemporary Irish artists. Contributions from Ann Maria Healy, Sean Lynch, Thaís Muniz, and Garrett Phelan activate and expand upon Ashur’s enigmatic paintings. More info here
Our, Óir, Ore: Four Millennia of Limerick Silver and Gold is on display in the Hunt Museum from Friday 24th April to Sunday 20th September. Our, Óir, Ore brings the visitor on a journey through Limerick’s 4,000 year history of silver and gold craftsmanship. From the elegance of Georgian silver to the ceremonial treasures of the Bronze Age, this exhibition showcases precious objects from the Hunt Collection, Limerick Museum, the Limerick Diocese, and the National Museum of Ireland. This exhibition is a must-see for Limerick audiences, as well as anyone with an interest in precious metals, ancient craftsmanship, and Bronze Age artefacts. Tickets €12.50/€10 (Children go free). A Relaxing Read-aloud for 5-7 year olds takes place in Watch House Cross Library at 1pm. Sit back, relax and let the librarian transport you with tales of adventure, mystery, fantasy and humour. Suitable for 5-7 year olds who aren’t able to read chapter books by themselves yet or those who are but just enjoy being read to. Free event. More info here
A Children’s LEGO Workshop takes place in Watch House Cross Library at 2pm. Planning, engineering, testing, problem solving, and designing are all a part of the process. As well as practicing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, patience, trial and error. And having lots of fun. For children age 6+ . Adult assistance required for younger children. Drop-in. The Northside Investigators Kids Summer Book Club For 9-12 year olds meets at the Watch House Cross Library at 2pm. First step collect and solve the puzzle at the library desk. Then for 6 weeks over the summer holidays the Northside Investigators will be reading a mystery/crime/detective novel each week, meet to chat about it, and solve some puzzles along the way. As part of Oícheanta ag Músaem an Hunt (Hunt Museum Nights), Katie Blackwood presents Perms, Updos, Bobs and Shaved Heads: Women and their Hairstyles in 20th century Ireland in the Hunt Museum at 7pm. Hairstyles can tell us a lot about the past. Female beauty practices have often been viewed as trivial and inconsequential. However, the hairstyles we choose reflect the culture we live in and how we see ourselves in it. This talk delves into the hairstyles worn by women in Ireland between 1900-1960. It charts the underlying importance and power of hair. And it explores how hair fashions reflect the wider political, social and economic issues that women faced in twentieth century Ireland. As part of the Step Up Dance Project, Trial By Musufat Yusuf is on in Dance Limerick at 7.30pm. A coven of witches gathers for a trial. They have been summoned to defend themselves, yet no accusation is ever revealed. The crime is absent, forgotten, or perhaps it never existed at all. Still, they proceed, constructing their innocence through testimony, gesture, and ritual, creating meaning in the absence of certainty. The performance explores femininity, ceremony, community and care as intertwined ways of gathering, remembering and relating. Through collective gestures and shared presence, it approaches ritual as a space where care, solidarity and transformation can emerge, not through resolution, but through the act of coming together itself. Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.

A Guided Walk of the Sliabh Ria Loop takes place in Kilfinane at 10am. Join local guide Declan Clancy for a rewarding guided walk through the scenic landscapes surrounding Kilfinane, taking in woodland trails, historic sites and panoramic views across the Ballyhoura region. Starting in Kilfinane Town Centre, the route heads towards Ballyriggan Woods before following Palatine Lane, an area steeped in the history of the Palatine settlers. The walk continues through Killeen Woods, the historic location where the famous Irish rebel Staker Wallace was captured. From the forest road, the route ascends to The Pinnacle (Sliabh Ria), where walkers are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the Galtee Mountains, the Ballyhoura countryside and the surrounding landscape. The walk then descends via the Lazy Dog area before returning through the beautiful Ballyriggan Woods to Kilfinane. Takes roughly 4 hours. Tickets €27.79. More info here
A One-Day Pottery Retreat takes place in Lough Gur Pottery from 10am. Enjoy a relaxing day of pottery, creativity, and a chance to step away from the demands of everyday life. Cultivating Connections: Farm Walk at Tory Hill Farm takes place at 10.30am. On this farm walk, you can learn how Tory Hill Farm farms with nature. This means they have low stock numbers, only milk once a day and we practice holistic grazing. Tory Hill Farm believe in protecting and expanding their farm’s space for insects, birds and wild animals. Using zero chemical pesticides, sprays and fertilisers. Tickets €28/€5. More info here

Echoes of Limerick: Time Travellers of the City is a free, family-friendly participatory photography installation that brings Limerick’s history to life on Thomas Street at 11am. Maryia Hoyin is the creator and organiser of this event. A large-scale historical backdrop recreates a nineteenth-century view of O’Connell Avenue. Visitors are invited to step into the scene, wear simple period-inspired props, and become “time travellers” for a photograph. Each participant receives an instant printed photograph as a unique souvenir. The project explores memory, identity and the connection between past and present. By placing today’s residents and visitors within a recreated historical streetscape, participants become part of Limerick’s ongoing story. Combining photography, performance and public participation, the project transforms a simple portrait into a shared celebration of the city’s heritage. More info here

Crafty Saturday, a free-play art & craft session for children takes place from 11am to 4pm at Watch House Cross Library. A fresh set of craft materials will be provided. Collect your art materials from the library desk and make something to take home, to display in the library or both. This is a self-guided activity so children must be accompanied and assisted by their grown-up. More info here
The All Ireland Skateboarding Championships return to where it all began in Mount Kennett at 12pm. Since first taking place here in 2010, the championship has grown into one of Ireland’s premier skateboarding events, bringing together the country’s top skaters for a day of competition, skill and community. The categories will be mixed under 12s/ women and LGBTQ+ 13+/ 13-17 Men’s/ 18+ Men/ 30+ mixed based on the demographics in skateboarding. More info here

Fab Lab Limerick are holding a Don’t Fear The Repair event in the UL City Campus from 1pm to 4pm. Don’t Fear the Repair is a bad pun, and a continuing series of repair workshops where our volunteer reprairers will help you repair your broken household items, such as phones, tablets, laptops, clothes, furniture, hi-fis, power tools… we’ve even repaired an old gramophone before! We hope to teach you how to repair things yourself if you’re confident enough to join us in the repair, and ultimately aim to promote a spirit of self-repair and a sustainable circular economy. The Bill Fox Memorial Run 2026 takes place at the Ballylanders GAA Club at 10am. There’s a 10k run, 5km run and 5km walk. Entry fee €20 plus booking fee. Entry to the walk will be by donation on the day. Cash prizes up for grabs for the 10km for 1st and 2nd Male and Female. More info here

Dance Limerick Summer Moves 2026 is on in John’s Square at 11am. Dance and Play in John’s Square Join in dance activities, watch relaxed performances, and dive into family‑friendly fun and games outdoors. Everyone is welcome to participate in the activities organised by Dance Limerick throughout the day. Dance Limerick’s dance artists will be offering a morning class at 11 am open to professionals, enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in movement. Afterwards, join for a family picnic in John’s Square with live music, followed by more dance in the afternoon to celebrate the launch of Square Roots project. Events are free and open to all ages. A Night to Remember, a celebration of Limerick’s connection to Quimper, takes place at the Shannon Rowing Club at 5pm. The Limerick Quimper Twinning Committee is delighted to announce celebrations marking 45 years of sister-city partnership between Limerick, Ireland and Quimper, Brittany, France. The evening will feature a Mederien Penhars Performance, language games, dance workshops and a Céilí Noz. Tickets €10. More info here
The Big Limerick Seisiún with live music and dance takes place every evening in the Locke Bar at 5pm and 9pm.
The Sunday Seisiún is on in the Glen Tavern from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Musicians are invited to bring their instruments along and join the session.
