It’s Orientation Week as Limerick’s newest third level students get settled in. Expect the city’s late bars to be busy.
The Limerick School of Art & Design presents the MAFA Graduate Exhibition: Affinities.Affinities, an exhibition of MA students final-year work, supported by an exhibition program of events opens on Sept 4th 2024 at LSAD Church Gallery on Clare St Limerick. Runs until 11th September. More info here

The Big Limerick Seisiún with live music and dance takes place every evening in the Locke Bar at 5pm and 9pm
Run 061’s weekly Girls Night Run starts at 7pm. There are 3km, 4.5km and 6km routes. Open to runners of all levels. More info here

The Limerick Writers’ Centre and Lime Square Poets present The Munster Slam in the White House Bar at 7.30pm. The Munster Poetry Slam invites poets of all backgrounds, and locations, to showcase their original work in a competitive yet supportive environment. Participants will have the opportunity to perform their poetry before a live audience and a panel of judges. Free event. More info here

DUG comes to Dolans Upstairs at 8pm. DUG is the new musical venture of songwriter Lorkin O’Reilly and California native Jonny Pickett. Having spent the past decade in Upstate NY releasing albums and touring extensively, Conor (Lorkin O’Reilly) moved to Dublin in 2022 to start a new musical chapter. Drawing inspiration from both Irish and American traditional music, DUG aims to create a transatlantic blend that reflects the musical heritages of both its members. Tickets €17. More info here

As part of Déardaoin Rúnda (Thursday Nights at the Museum), Gramophone Social comes to the Hunt Museum at 7pm. Take a trip back in time to the 1920’s and enjoy an evening of Ragtime and Jazz with Gramophone Social. Vintage enthusiast, Trevor Gyves, has carefully curated a musical selection from his collection of bakelite records from the 1900s to the 1950s. Using two antique, hand cranked gramophones and vintage microphones, this is a wonderful enhancement to your night at the museum. Free event. More info here

This is a non-alcohol event, opened to all students, designed to promote inclusion, and belonging. UL Student Life will be bringing back Burning Circus for a spectacular display for fire dancers and performers. Dance Limerick and the Limerick Mental Health Association are colloborating for a series of Movement for your Mind Dance Workshops in the Dance Limerick Studio from 9.30am to 11am. There’s a recommended €2 donation per class but if cost is an issues, please let the organisers know. Everyone over 18 is welcome. No upper age limit. No experience needed. The classes will be running until October. Come for a one-off session or for the full block of 10 classes. More info here

Parkrun is a free, weekly, timed 5k run that takes place every Saturday morning at 9.30am. Limerick has Parkruns at the UL Boathouse, Mungret Park and The Demense in Newcastle West. All you need to do is register once on parkrun.com to get your barcode and you can show up to any of the events.
The Wickham Way Market Stalls & Food Court will be open 10am to 3pm (food court open til late).

Breathe Better Yoga hosts Park Yoga every Saturday (weather dependent) in the People’s Park from 11 a.m. It is donation-based. Please bring your own yoga mat.

Collect your art materials from the library desk and make something to take home, to display in the library or both! Distillation takes place in the Lime Tree Theatre at 2.30pm, 5pm and 8pm. A Luke Casserly, Abbey Theatre, and Solas Nua Production, Distillation is a performative journey which takes you to the Irish bog landscape through scent. It is a response to the recent cessation of the peat harvesting industry in Ireland. Over the past year, Luke Casserly has collaborated with renowned perfume maker Joan Woods to create a unique distillation of the Midlands bog – the place where he grew up – as the starting point for an olfactory encounter which looks at our human relationship to place.
